A few months ago I took a trip to Thailand to see my girl and we wanted to hit the beach, but couldn't get very far away because she had to be back at work. Her sister runs a hotel on Jomtien beach and could let us stay there for very little money so we ended up there. I ate something that didn't agree with an antibiotic that I was taking at the time and ended up in the hospital for a few days. I believe it was the Pattaya/Bangkok hospital. It was a really nice place actually...flat screen... [Read More]

Does Thailand have low cost mutual fund companies like US based mutual fund company Vanguard?
If so, can both Thai nationals and foreign nationals invest through these companies?
Thanks!

» Going to Vientiane soon - info and advice, please? |
|
Jan 05, 2009 - 11:21 PM - by Mister Fixit

I'm off to Vientiane for 3 days over my birthday later this month.
I'm flying from BKK to Udon Thani early morning, spending the morning there, then take the bus to VTE, getting there late afternoon-ish. Spend the evening and all the next day (my birthday) in Vientiane and maybe have dinner with my old boss who moved there a while back, if he's around. Leave again on the third morning for Nong Khai.
I'll spend the afternoon there looking about and we're taking the... [Read More]

Hi,
I have been teaching a group of eight 20 somethings for the past 4 weeks, They will eventually be going to live as Au Pairs in an English speaking country when they have finished.
their English speaking skills are ok, so I try to introduce new voab and try to get them talking as much as possible, always asking them why about anything really. I have covered all sorts of conversations and places where they take place.
I have done classes on Eating out,... [Read More]

Hello, I been researching teaching in Taiwan, one company (HESS) seems to dominate the market there, Ive contacted them and they say there is always work available.
Just want to know if anyone is working/worked in Taiwan or more specifically has worked for HESS?
If so is the money in relation to cost of living as good as they claim it to be? Whats the standard of living conditions etc etc.
Cheers.

» Do you leave school when your last lesson is over? |
|
Jan 05, 2009 - 3:43 PM - by lost in bangkok

My school unofficially let me leave at about 2pm once my final lesson has finished. I am told many people have to stay until 4pm is that correct or is it normal to leave after your final lesson.
A second point/question: Do most people get paid 12 months a year? My school tell me we do not get paid in April as there is no school!
Thanks in anticipation
and Happy New Year- I hope your first day back was OK

I have a very good friend who has gotten into legal trouble in Thailand. We are American.
His family and friends are doing the best we can to help him!
All I am looking for is some contact information for a good and trustworthy lawyer. If you can PM me some info--a phone number or email--that would be much appreciated.
At this point, we need a lawyer who isn't necessarily entirely 'by the book'. This is a case involving drugs, and a lawyer who is... [Read More]
