I'm with you on that, Pat. Was in the store a couple of weeks ago, doing my weekly shopping when the lady love says, "Oh, I need some lotion, honey." We went to the 'lotion aisle' and I pointed out that I was NOT BUYING ANY OF THAT WHITENING SH**, and that she was beautiful as she was. It's something I tell her frequently (the beauty thing, not the whitening thing). I think maybe she's beginning to believe me.

Other countries that I've lived (Brasil and Cabo Verde, for instance) also displayed pretty open racism about their darker skinned countrymen. Considering that almost all Brasilians have some African ancestry and ALL Cabo Verdians (small island nation off the coast of Senegal) definitely do, I found it quite surprising.
