It goes back to the tribal identity, mentioned earlier. People naturally feel most comfortable with "their own", that is, people who speak the same language, eat the same kind of food, same basic attire, same or similar physical characteristics, systems of belief etc.

We absorb such attitudes from our culture, in the same way we absorb and learn our native language. Each culture has inherent racism. If we can be more rational and change ourselves, that is, make genuine efforts to minimize or escape racism, then we can begin to change the culture. Such change is being pursued and fostered increasingly, espcially after the mass slaughters of the 20th century.

Ideological racism, especially, continues to exist to be sure. But it's increasingly being viewed negatively.

Now, if Thais only knew that...
