Fuzio...Ekkamai, soi 7
...on the 7th floor of the Mini showroom. The view was fine and so was the ambience. Where this place disappoints is the food. Prices were easily double what experience tells me they should have been: B390 for spaghetti olio/aglio? Even the idiot stratum of the hiso tribe might find that a little excessive.
Anyway, SD started with the calamari tempura (not indicated as such on the menu, but that's what it was): delicious and he appreciated the homemade sauce that accompanied. I had seared mozzarella and tomato salad....tasty, though the cheese had more of a deep-fried taste to it than a pan sear. For the main course, SD tried the pesto fortified with potatoes and string beans: heavy, heavy, heavy. We couldn't finish the (smallish) portion even with both of us working on it....in the end we left most of the potatoes and string beans on the plate. Not a recipe sent from heaven, that one. I had the spaghetti indicated above. It was as it should be (though maybe a bit oily), except for the extortionate price.
The table bread was a little strange...every piece was infused with raisins. This addition did not go well with the olive oil/balsamic puddle provided and we ended up picking them out.
And now a word about our fellow diners. Two tables over sat a Thai-Chinese family with 5 kids under 3...each with its own nanny. No attempt was made to discourage satan's spawn from running all over the restaurant, playing at empty tables, screaming at their tenders and generally being deserving of a slap. Next to us sat an Australian couple, the male of which lectured the dining room with his business philosphy, weekly schedule, and reasons why he was grossly underrated at work...for an hour and a half. These are the types of folks I normally encounter in economy class on 17 hour flights to the States.
Definitely no repeat visit for this place.
B2500 for 2: with 2 B300 glasses of (very nice) Italian red.
