Do you have to pay to be a member of Soulseek?

I've been meaning to ask someone who uses the site as I was recently asked to give credit card info before they would let me download their software. It's not much, I think the lifetime membership is around $40-, but I hate giving my credit card info on the web and so try to avoid it.
