Re: Bacco, Osteria de Sergio...
As SD is out of town, I stopped in for a solo lunch today. For starters, I tried a tasting platter of various flatbread sandwiches (panini) and crostini. The serving was huge and half of it sits in my fridge right now waiting to be microwaved for dinner. Seven varieties of pita bread and Italian loaf white bread with toppings and fillings: spinach and fontina overlaid with crispy bacon, parma ham and provola cheese, grilled bread with a spicy tomato salsa topping and others I haven't tried yet. The couple at the next table (up from Penang) were impressed enough to lean over and congratulate me on my order, asking about names and flavors. Everything I tasted was delicious.
I should have left at that moment, but I had already ordered baked snapper on a bed of spinach in a light "Mediterranean" sauce (mushrooms and black olives): the fish was succulent and perfectly cooked, though I think some tomatoes and capers would have helped the sauce. I forget the name of the wine, but it's the only one on the list at B250 a glass.
B1400 for lunch with enough left over for dinner. I will definitely have to waddle more aggressively on the treadmill next week.
