The Kite Runner.
Set mostly in Afghanistan and partly in the US, taking us through the lead up to the Russian invasion and onto Taliban times, with heavy use of subtitles, particularly in the first half when the main players are in their childhood, this film has a lot of sadness, regret and guilt and I don't know what came over me but I was in tears on several occasions All along I was wondering how bored my daughter would be with all the subtitles and serious subject matter but she loved it and the first thing she said to me at the end was 'I cried 3 or 4 times and so did the woman next to me'. What a wuss I am, eh? A big softy really
Very entertaining kite flying scenes, too (yes, really ). Not quite what I expected, but it made a bigger impression on me than any film I can think of for a while.
