Re: Advice for a family travelling in Thailand

Hotels I recommend for Family.
Bangkok-- Asia Hotel. Central location connected to skytrain. Most torist places located nearby or near train route. About $50 us per night.

In Chaing Mai, depend on if you want city or hillside (resort). City I like the Ping Porn (Tower section) the old section if much cheaper though Arond $40-50 last time there, the other wing about half that. It is near the Night Bazzar. Has a disco. Some people like to stay inside the gates of the old city. Cheaper is Chaing Mai City Gates Hotel but it is located about 10 blocks from anything.

My favorite trip in Bangkok for tourists is the Rice Barge tour. Includes drinks and cocktails. All agents sell the trip which leaves form the River City Pier.

Also I like to take the River Express Farry boats up to the Mon Island North of Bangkok on River. You go all the way up by public ferry. Get off at last stop Nontaburi. Ask around. They will point you to another pier where you pay about B150 rt for a boat ticket rt to the island. Most thais do this trip on weekends. The boats leave Nontaburi pier around 11am-1 pm.
