From what I've seen over the last 12 months you are right to be cynical about the Burmese government. If they're admitting the death toll is around 10,000 then you can bet the real number is probably closer to 50,000.

The world media was reporting that Myanmar would be hit by a cyclone at least 3 days before it struck. Someone in the junta should have got off their ass and warned people.
