There's something in the water in Sweden. They have more quality bands per capita than anywhere else on Earth.
It is verily the Land of Metal.
For starters we have....

...Bathory. Seminal and groundbreaking in defining the Black Metal sound in the 80s, that has since become Norway's, and probably Scandinavia's, biggest cultural export. Nickboy, the silliness began
here
.

Entombed. As Well described them once, Titans of metal.
Dismember. Rocking!
Unleashed. Groovy.
Meshuggah. Unbelievable industrial-cyber-thrash-groove-death-something-or-other.
Amon Amarth. Best of the current Swedish Death Metal.
At The Gates. Seminal death/thrash defined the Gothenberg sound. Also gave rise to....
The Haunted. When they're on target they're excellent.
The Crown. Their Deathrace King album is one of my all time faves.
Opeth. Some have been known to listen to this band and nothing else.
Dissection. Essential. Knobhead in the pic killed himself a while ago. Spa!!

Shining. Excellent Black Metal from the current crop.
Marduk. Scene stalwarts who just keep going and going. The
Motorhead of Swedish Black Metal.
Dawn. So underground, so cult, I couldn't even find a photo of them on goog-un image search.

Definitely one of my all time favourite bands who are now sadly defunct.
Nasum, not a metal band, but they play incredibly fast and loud, so that's good enough for me.
They also have incredible punk and crust bands that would make the Blink 182 fans shit their pants.
Disfear.
Wolfpack = thrash.
DS-13. Hardcore like it should be.
These bands can actually play to, not like half the punk bands from the UK and the US.
Hail to Sweden!!
