"Practicalities of Living in Thailand" mmmm definitely the right section for this.....
What tips & tricks do you guys & girls have for knowing that you're not paying over the odds in a land where all the merchandisers are weighing up 'what you can afford' rather than how much whatever they're selling costs?
1 - Learn some of the lingo.
2 - Don't go shopping wearing more gold than the Grand Palace.
3 - Don't carry a wedge if you're lucky enough to have one.

I can't remember the last time I had to bargain for anything in Thailand but then again my wooden frog supplies are still high and it won't look like I'll have to replenish for a while.
Yea, stay away fro the tourist areas, that's numero one.
Also, if you ask the price of something and you notice the vendor suddenly going into "think mode", don't even bother waiting for an answer.
Steer clear of Indian merchants.
