Re: Thai Baht getting stronger.

For those interested, it should kick off big time in just over an hour 8.30 EST when the non farm payrolls are announced. Biggest event of the month arguably. You should see currencies ping all over the shop for a few minutes. Here's a link to some streaming rates which should work. Over 120 should be OK for dollar, below 100 and you'd best wait a bit before buying the old baht.

Bloomberg usually flashes the number up immediately too (on the telly)

Enjoy...

Re: Thai Baht getting stronger.

I don't know what is going on, the USD is not losing any ground lately but, the Baht is on a Rambo style rampage and I don't see any fundamentals that justify it:
http://finance.google.com/finance?q=USDTHB
That's another 2 THB gain in the last 48 hours?!?! There's been no news about this from the regular financial news sources either which is odd. I think this latest move just about does in any profitability for the Thai exporters, they must be crying like babies right now.
Anyone over in LOS see any reason for this appreciation? I guess I'm going to have to wait until the Thais to do something drastic (stupid) to devalue their currency before I make my move over there. I'll be watching closely from the Dominican Republic in the mean time.

Re: Thai Baht getting stronger.

Indeed. With all the nonsense that's gone down over the past year.

This pretty well indicates to me that there has to be a lot of Chinese (including Singaporean) money keeping it propted up.

Anyway, good news if your earning baht, not so good if your source of income is foreign.

I still think though, just keeping the bare essential in Baht around is a good thing.

Why does the Bangkok Post quote Baht/$ 35.740/820
Bid/Ask
GOLD
10,900
Baht/Baht weight
+ 50McKinsey Quarterly
Global Insights

perhaps those are offshore trading rates.
