I'm really curious why they didn't give you the ten years. Not to make you feel bad, but everyone I've talked to said the 10 year visa is pretty standard.

We certainly didn't ask for it. We specified our visit period in the paperwork, and when she got back the visa we saw 10 years, cool! We thought we so clever until we learned from others that this is pretty much the norm.

Not married either, that's correct. When I mentioned "we" previously, I was thinking about how applying for the visa was very much a joint project. I should have said she got the visa rather than we.
