yep, totally agree and the way the congressional leaders were trying to push this through without all members of congress being able to be in on the discussions or even read it till the last minute made it seem a lot like when Bush pushed through the Patriot act after 911. just no anthrax this time being sent to congress.

well, from what I've read the 700 billion would just buy up some of the toxic stuff from those banks, etc. that are connected, as it were. the derivatives market is about one quadrillion dollars, 1000 times that of the GDP of America and there is so much of that stuff (bets made on whether mortgages will fail for example) floating around that if all of the banks, hedge funds actually had to put it on their books at market value, most of those N.Y. city places of business would be declared legally bankrupt. a far more serious situation in some ways than the twin towers being hit on 911.

Re: Bailout rejected! American economy screwed?

    263 yeas -171 nays

Well enough Reps were browbeaten, arm twisted, and frightened into passing this Bill in the House to hand out 700 Billion(or more) to their Money Masters. I'd like to see a breakdown of who voted nay after the number of yeas reached 218, the number needed for a majority....those were cowardly votes for pure political cover. You can bet on it! (there has to be at least 20 of them)

Now that these bastards know this tactic works, how long before they're back demanding 7 Trillion? I would like now to remind everyone how the 700 Billion dollar figure was arrived at:

"It's not based on any particular data point," a Treasury spokeswoman told Forbes.com Tuesday. "We just wanted to choose a really large number."
from: Bad News For The Bailout - Forbes.com

If this Bill wouldn't have passed would the credit markets have seized up completely? Probably, but they already were seizing up and I sincerely believe that it was done by intent, with Treas. Sec Paulson(former Goldman Sachs bigwig) working in concert with his Wall St. cronies in order to strike fear into Congress and the American people. And if they hadn't got their handout they would have made sure the situation became worse. This was nothing but economic blackmail perpetrated on us by a gang of bankster crooks.

I believe what was needed though was some real pain to be felt by the American people, because I think only after some real pain is felt then it wouldn't be long before the bottom line of this crisis(a failed monetary system) would have been sussed out by the American people and real action to change it would have begun.

Now we've been officially signed over as slaves/chattel to the Money Masters. They will accumulate our remaining real assets and the results of our labors, while we're left with another blizzard of their worthless paper/electronic blips created out of thin air.

This passage in no way guarantees that the problem is solved. I've also got real problems with the reporting in the corporate whore media, that since Monday's vote and the subsequent stock market decline that calls to Congressmen turned more in favor of the bailout. I've got very good reasons to believe those reports are out and out lies! But why would that surprise me.

It's a sad sad day, and that's all I've got to say about that.

    America....it was nice knowing ye.

Oct 29 is 26 days away. As we get closer and closer, the news media will be full of articles and discussions of the crash of Oct 29, 1929 and the Great Depression.

I concur. The 700 billion only postpones the inevitable, namely structural reforms, such as a reintroduction of the gold standard and abolishment of the Central Banks around the world. Unlike many Americans think, the Federal Reserve is not a government agency (nor is the ECB, the Bank of England, or the Bank of Japan for that matter), but a privately owned company with a license to create money out of thin air.

Re: Bailout rejected! American economy screwed?

There's no depression and the fear mongering about credit drying up and banks going under is mostly just smoke and mirrors. True, the effects of the fear mongering drove people to make a run on WaMU, but none of the other banks seem to be suffering runs.

If this bailout were really necessary to ease credit restrictions, why are they giving it to struggling investment banks? They don't lend money, they borrow it and speculate with it.

Why Paulson demanding a lump sum with no oversight as to how it's used and also demanding the right to hire and fire people in the treasury? Especially when he'll be leaving in 30 days? It's a heist, pure and simple. That or the neo-cons really are trying to consolidate power totally within the executive and push for a facist system of government.

    12 easy steps to fascism:

    1. Invoke a terrifying internal and external enemy. Check.

    2. Create a gulag. (why stop at one?) Check.

    3. Develop a thug caste. (hello blackwater and Limbaugh!) Check

    4. Set up an internal surveillance system (Hooray for immunity for warrantless wiretaps). Check

    5. Harass citizens' groups (buncha subversives over at the League of Women Voters) Check.

    6. Engage in arbitrary detention and release (no fly lists, no-knock warrants, removeal of habeas corpus laws) Check.

    7. Target key individuals (lock up senators like Don Siegelman) Check.

    8. Control the press (FAUX News) Check.

    9. Dissent equals treason (2006 military commisions act, now anyone can be labelled an enemy combatant, at Bush's say-so) Check.

    10. Suspend the rule of law ( see above) Check.

    11. Create a private military. (Bush just unleashed the 3rd Combat Bde to patrol US cities and thwart 'dissent'. Calls them his bodyguard) Check.

    12. Control the ecomony. Check.
