Well this is already shaping up to be a crappy morning.

My doctor notified me by email that the check I had written last week bounced only he told me by putting in the subject line "the check you wrote" and adding " .... bounced" in the body of his message. Nice. Always wanted to do business with a doctor who has a sense of humor.

Then I opened my mail from last Friday and saw a bounced check notice with a $25 service charge. Add that to the money my doctor is charging me and the late fees and interest on my credit card, plus a $35 returned check fee from a state agency and your talking bucks out the wazoo.

This is money I ain't got, people. How did it happen?

I began frantically check my bank statements, deposit receipts, check reconciliation, and whatever else I could lay my sweaty hands upon, searching, reaching, grasping for any kind of clue whatsoever why the whopping check I deposited on the 19th wasn't covering my outstanding expenses.

Then it hit me like a cream pie in the face. The bank teller. We had a miscommunication regarding a deposit slip. I thought the check was going into my regular checking account and she thought it was going into a checking account that didn't have any activity since 2008.

Will they resolve the matter? I hope so. In the meantime I haven't had my out of control lawn cut in over two weeks because the grass cutter's check bounced, not to mention the fees from my doctor and the expected charges from my credit card (though I suspect they might waive them since as of this morning the payment hasn't been reported to them as NSF).
