Leaving England - Part 4, thoughts.

Posted 27th June 2008 at 05:16 by naboo
Motivation for my current job has gone through the floor! My year 11s all passed their course, most with a merit award, my year 10s have had their last GCSE exam and have gone on work experience, my year 12s have completed their exams and have now virtually finished all their coursework for next year, my year 9s have had their SATS exams and completed the first unit of their BTEC coursework, there really is nothing left for me to work towards.

I've now sold everything bar a few CDs. My room is a shell. I'm not sure I'm going to have 20kg to put on the plane! Sold my car and the walking to work has knocked me down to below 14st for the first time in 3 years. There's going to be nothing of me left at all soon!

I'm reading the book 'Culture Shock Thailand', though quite arrogantly can't stop thinking "I won't get any kind of culture shock, I'm not like everyone else." I fear my arrogance is going to leave me misguided here. I think my previous time in Thailand, the fact everything is sorted (except the visa which will get done in 10 days time) and on arrival I have a goal for the first month means I'll stay on track though. I'm starting to think about the places I'm going to go to come September when i have a few months to look around. Khon Kaen sounds appeals, as do the beaches. I'll have to get in contact with my peeps in Mae Hong Son when i arrive and see what's possible there, it looks the best option for me.

Frustratingly, a relationship that's been on/off here in the UK for 8 or 9 years now has been back on a lot recently. She knows I'm going and wants to come and see me in November. I'm making no committments to being able to make time for her. In fact, I'm trying my hardest to ignore her. I don't need it right now.

I don't know what I'm trying to do here, I think its just me trying to arrange my thoughts. I'm merely existing at the moment. I need a focus and because I've been so organised over Thailand, I've got nothing to focus on. Its all sorted. In exactly 5 weeks to the hour, I'll be entering Thai skies. I'm going to get a lot more nervous as it approaches. The reality might not hit home until I've been there a few nights. These next few months are going to be one hell of a journey.

Sanitysub, my life is far from exciting right now! Mostly I work, sleep, drink or write shit on here.

Party party for me tomorrow, and next weekend. Gotta fit in a weekend with the boys at some time as well. It might become a little more exciting soon.

Zehner, I was thinking Khon Kaen because I want to experience some real Thai culture and was under the impression it isn't all that westernised. I don't want to see tourist resorts, so if In went south I'd be avoiding the islands, Phuket and the terrorists, where would be good? My only experience of the south was Krabi, Au Nang (it was good to spend a few days there after 4 weeks living in very basic accomodation right up in the North West) and Railay. I'd quite like to live down south between my TEFL and actually getting a job in hiring season, so will be looking, Nakhon Sii Thamarat was brought to my attention. Thoughts?

:-D Naboo, I didn't say "exciting" I said "interesting" - and why not so? You've gone and sold all but your CDs, you've gone packed in UK teaching in search of teaching abroad (much as I plan to do!)...VERY interesting me thinks! ;-)

I got all crossed for ya and wishing you the very, very best!
