.dll comes up missing
If anyone could help me I'd be grateful.
I have a mess of games on the HD, about 30 Gig worth. Sometimes I click the load icon and get the message a .dll is missing - cannot load. I re-install and lose my progress (sometimes). Last night I reinstalled but an icon never made it to the desktop. I went into the file folder and clicked that one - it worked. Then I drug the icon over to the desktop and it stopped working, so I drag it back from where it came and now it doesn't work anymore.
It seems just after a registry fix. AGV app., defrag or SpyBot run has something to do with the missing .dll.
Another problem is that after running certain games for a couple of hours the fragmented file map of my Diskeeper has red wall to wall and takes 10 minutes (with 3.0 ghz CPU and 1 gig ram) to sort it out. What up with that?
What am I doing wrong? (yes, I am buying cracked CDs)

Some in C some in D. Is there something about crossing over disks? Can I de-partition without software? I'd like to do that.

I think it will help immensely to keep any games off the C drive. Putting games there just mucks up the system and makes the comp run alot slower. I have a 120gig drive with 4 partitions and keep C drive only for system files and utility programs. Since I started installing all games on drives other than C I have had none of the trouble that you describe above. Previously, I did.
You have to partition your drive before you load the operating system(windows), I personally do not trust software partitions.

No. you're talking about reloading the operating system and that comes after you wipe the drive and partition it.
I mean technically you are right about your question, you can load the operating system over top to fix problems but that has nothing to do with partitions. And sometimes you can lose files for some programs when you re-install Xp.
To partition your harddrive you have to go back to square one, wipe the drive clean and start from scratch. I wouldn't recommed doing it if you're not sure how. If you wanna take that route, best to get someone who knows how(and not just someone who says they know how).

A lot of DLL problems are referenced on the Web. Do a google search on the error message that you get. You might be surprised to find it's something easy to fix.

I did some of that, even downloaded the title that comes up as missing. I'm ashaimed to say I found another problem. Usually I run the DiscCleaner in the shallow mode. But then I ran it in the deep mode and 300 errors came up. Then I found I had GTA SA, a 4.7 GHz program, loaded on the desktop AND on C:/. My puter feels better now. Thanx for the help.

You can download a program called Partition Magic, its brilliant. Ask any IT guy or read reviews of it and it always comes up 5 stars. It has a few cool features, the ability to create back up and emergency discs too.
You can find free trials(not sure about what you can do with demo), but Im sure the full version is out there somewhere
