Windows 64-bit?
The new laptop is all singing and dancing, with dual 64bit processor.
Not being a big techie, I didn't realise that I can now run a 64bit OS. Does the newest Windows run as 64? Is there an XP 64, or do I wait until the new Windows comes out? Are there driver problems with a 64bit OS?
Also, because (of some dud advice) I opened up my pantip bandit XP pro to Windows Updates, it has now been sussed by Windows as a bandit. Microsoft has not shut me down, but I do get a reminder every time I log on.
Maybe I will get a real one (5000b plus), but I don't want to reinstall and wipe what I have on file/programs.
Does Windows allow the pirate to run forever? Anything I can do to tweak it so it doesn't look like pirate? Any tips?
:chug:

1. Never up-date unless it's a legal copy (usually).
2. I have an XP-64 bandit I found in Malaysia for 2usd. Never used it.
3. Run forever? Don't know about that but once I installed a pirate video game and a message came up that said I was using an illegal product. Then a .dll was removed from the game's file and it never installed a second time.

I dont mind using duff sotware but when it comes to the OS I want the real stuff.
Its still easy to get round, there is a link in a thread below somewhere for the patch that stops the pop up message but you just dont know what else is in there. You can delete any program with no bother but wiping an OS is a biggie. I know others will disagree but buy the orig OS. Less hassle in the long run.

Agree about OS mate, but I will look at link if I can find.
I don't really want to spend 6000b on a real XP 32 bit only, as my machine can run 64 and many wonderful things besides!
If n e 1 can advise whys or hows of 64bit windows I will gladly listen.
Thanks

Got the XP 64 bit too. Never updated it, just get an update reminder every time I log on. Gotta say it's no hassle and I usually do a complete reinstall every few months or so.
Only problems I've had is that some software won't run on 64 bit.

So tell us, how much faster is 64 bit than a 3.0 ghz processor, roughly? I like speed.

for nomal users about 0.0005 sec off the start up time.
Unless you are using it for really big stuff you dont notice it.

So, if I run around to find a 64 bit version to run on my Turion 64 Dual, are u saying that I won't see any improvement over the 32?
I am not a games player.

If you just use it for Word, exel, the internet etc no.
You might notice it if you run several apps at the same time, but they need to have been specialy adapted for 64bit.
Its all coming and is the next step, but for us normal folks it wont make that much of a noticeable difference.
Basically, if you are offered a pc with a 64 bit processor take it, but dont worry running around looking specially for 64 bit stuff to do things with it.

Excellent comment, as, under Windows, you generally only find the 2nd processor useful when the first is maxed out on a long job.
Linux would get both cpu's hauling the load together... & share loads as required...

It is probably wise to wait for the official release of 64-bit operating system. It should be next year.
As for removing "nugs" and updating the Pantip XP, just search for "Official muBlinder Page". muBlinder ( Microsoft Update Blinder ) current v2.3 (27-June-2006) is the program that will solve all your problems.
You may PM me for details.
