Re: Utorrent .... the complete guide.

For a filum with the subs out of sync it's easier to find correct subtitles than manually edit incorrect ones.

opensubtitles.org usually lists all the popular versions, just check the file and subtitles names. Sometimes you need to wait for a couple of days for someone to upload the latest subs.

Re: Utorrent .... the complete guide.

I've read Defender's sticky, followed all the instruction, I'm still at an average of about 2Kps down load on uTorrent. My puter is pretty fast, my modem about average. The part I can't get through is the firewall porting. Would someone help me through these terms, give me a click-by-click?

The upload speed is usually at least 2X the download speed. I don't want to be selfish but is there any way I could slow these guys down? Or does it not affect my DL speed?

I've downloaded Peer Guardian but can't really understand the terms in the guide. Would this program open that port? Because when I test the port in the uTorrent dropdown it connects to a website and it says, PORT ERROR.

In utorrent you can set in Preferences > Connection, your maximum upload rate. Per torrent you can limit the upload rate too by right-clicking the torrent and go to properties.

Your general upload rate should be between 60-80 % of the maximum ISP upload rate. If the setting is too high, it will affect your download speed. If it is too low, your peers will not give you much.

PeerGuardian blocks IP addresses you don't want to connect to. It has often problems with connecting to the websites to update the blocklists. Reinstall it. This worked for me.

Please tell, do you have a modem with one LAN port, a modem/router with more than one LAN port or a modem and a separate router with four ports? What is your "promised" ISP download and upload rate?

Re: Utorrent .... the complete guide.

Thanks for helping. I can't answer any of those questions, it's the terms, they blind me, I need a click-by-click. I did go here www.forum.utorrent.com. Although Defender has helped a lot of people on this forum and a really good lad, I found these explanation clearer. I am now at 15+ Kps from 2 or 3. I learned to set download priority over upload, enabled protocol encryption, seemed to do the trick. Maybe with a little help I could do as you say and get it even faster.

Re: Utorrent .... the complete guide.

If you are running XP you can apply a patch to change the maximum number of half open connections - set at only 10 by default I believe.

You can download it here www.LvlLord.de - Tipps, Tricks & Utilities - Downloads

You simply double click it to run it (it will open a command prompt window) and when it prompts you for the new number of half open connections then put in 200. The Windows repair thingie sometimes kicks in afterwards and says a system file has been changed and asks you to put in your Windows disk to repair it - just click the cancel button and it will go away.

After you have done this, click options, then preferences on the uTorrent menu. Choose "advanced" from the list on the left, then scroll down to find net.max_halfopen in the list. Click on it to highlight it, then type 200 in the Value box underneath. Then click the "Set" button, click "OK" and you are done.

(Just occurred to me that Defender might have already covered this in his thread so apologies if I am repeating stuff)

Regarding forwarding a port - it would be handy to know what router you are using...

Re: Utorrent .... the complete guide.

Router? Don't have the slightest, S&O. I have a CAT CDMA wireless, that's all I know.

I just downloaded it but it won't fire up, as if it had no .exe. I went to the option you mentioned, put 200 in and noticed my green high-light speed jumped up about double. I owe you one.

Re: Utorrent .... the complete guide.

It is in a zip file so you need to unzip it first (sorry, forgot about that). So the file you downloaded should end in ".zip". I'm wondering if you have a program installed to unzip it with though? If you have, when you right-click the file, then one of the pop-up menu options should read "Extract Here", or something like that. Then you will have a .exe file to double-click (as well as an .htm and .txt file that you can just delete).

As far as I can tell you have a modem but not a router, so I am not quite sure how you go about forwarding a port with that....maybe someone else on here knows how?

Had a quick look on the port forwarding guide and you might have some luck following these instructions:

Port Forwarding for the Axess-Tel CDMA-1XEV-DO

If JD has a modem that can connect only one computer via LAN or USB, than you don't have to forward the port. Simply because the modem doesn't have to make the choice to which computer the torrent has to be connected.

Try these settings:
Options > Preferences > Connection > Port used for incoming connections: 49489
Options > Preferences > Connection > Check: Enable UPnP port mapping

Re: Utorrent .... the complete guide.

Seems to run a little faster with UPnP unchecked. Still getting an error with port check. If i don't need to port I guess I've done all I can do. I'm at an average of about 5Kps. Is that dogedly slow for CAT/Thailand? The Internet in general runs slow. A normal download with Firefox/Windows is usually never over 7, more like 3-5 on average.

Re: Utorrent .... the complete guide.

If I click the icon in the tray it says 230. In one CAT manual it says 253, another manual says 156, the outlet told me about 150. There is a high-speed model but it's 10,000B. My computer cost 5,000. Time of day, of course makes a difference. Since my tweaking last night and periodic checks it's never gone past 15, right now at 3. I ran a speed test once and it was about 120/90. But at that same time my non-uTorrent downloads were at the same slows.

Re: Utorrent .... the complete guide.

If you have the feeling that you did all you could. Please download this torrent: distribution: OpenOffice.org P2P Downloads

Choose: Version 2.41., Platform Windows and Language English.

If all settings are correct, this specific file should reach a speed of 90 % of your maximum download rate.

Good luck.
