Thread: True Set Up

Okay I need a little help here. My computer was hacked and I lost all on Saturday night. But the IT guy at my University has got it all up and running well.

Now its time to go home and plug all the shit back in. I can do that. But!! I have called True and enquired about going from my present 256 hook up to 2mb's no problems but not for 4 or 5 days as they are busy.

They have given me my user name and password codes to reinstall the cable modem system I have now. The IT guy seems to think I need some kind of start up disc from True, but they maintain. All I need to do is plug it in, go to new connections and create one.

Who can help me? Do I need the disc, or can I do it manually as True Service Center is advising?

Sorry for being quite the idiot, but I am still on a learning curve here.

You don't need the disc at all. That is only required by the clueless

Just go home and plug in the lan cable from the modem/router and see what happens - I reckon it should work without any setup at all. At least that's how it works at my house!

Zehner's right - sorry I missed a bit!

Yes, you will connect to the router just by plugging it into the computer - then you need to get the router to connect to the net by putting in the username and password that True gave you.

He's also right that the router should still have these stored as it was only the computer that crashed - so you may not need to configure it at all.

Like I said - plug it in and it should work!

Thanks you guys, I am gonna try in the next hour. I did download the modem and driver I had before directly from True, and I am taking a farung technician with me!! Keeping my fingers crossed.

Okay, Again a big thanks to you all. This is being typed from the hacked CPU in my own house now. All is okay, but the format of the board is different than before. Example all the print is smaller.

Why would now my system say 384 mb ram and 734mz when both of these were lower before the crash. ie 286mb ram I think.

Do you have an onboard video card which uses shared system memory? If you do then the memory settings in the BIOS may have been changed.

Thats the plan me scouser friend. It was the wierdest thing. Very close to a bad trip on acid 30 years ago. But when I woke up it was still there.
