Re: Your favourite Torrent site
Demonoid down.
There's talk, there's rumors, and there's speculation...
Quote:
Demonoid.com, one of the most popular BitTorrent trackers has allegedly been taken offline by the Canadian Recording Industry Association (CRIA). Both the tracker and the website have been unresponsive for nearly 24 hours now.
As of now it is still unsure what exactly happened, but the popular Dutch news site nu.nl reports that the CRIA is responsible for the downtime.
TorrentFreak contacted some of the Demonoid administrators, but they are not sure what happened either. It is certainly possible that Demonoid’s Canadian ISP pulled the plug after being pressured by the CRIA. The Demonoid server is still pinging, but the ISP could have firewalled the everything after they received some serious legal threats. Deimos, the founder and the head admin of the site is unreachable and has not responded yet.
This is not the first time Demonoid suffers major downtime due to pressure from the anti-piracy lobby. Demonoid had to move its servers from The Netherlands to Canada in June after The Dutch anti-piracy outfit BREIN filed a subpoena against Demonoid’s ISP. BREIN had asked the ISP to take Demonoid offline and hand over the administrator’s personal details, but Demonoid relocated their servers before any harm was done.
Unfortunately, it now seems that Canada is not the “safe haven” as they expected it to be.
Demonoid tracks over a million .torrent files and is the second largest BitTorrent tracker after The Pirate Bay. The shutdown of the site and tracker is a huge blow for the BitTorrent community that lost 2 of the most popular BitTorrent trackers (TorrentBox was taken offline for US users a few hours ago) within 24 hours.
More info soon!
|
A mild panic among some torrenters worried that the bad guys will harvest IP addys and pursue legal actions. Sounds like a bit of over-reaction to me.
Right I'm off to check on some other sites.

The reason is down is unkown. It hasnt been RAIDed, shutdown, terminated, deleted, burned, mamed, or thrown under a bridge. There have been speculation as demonoid.com whereabouts. Well the rurmors are false. A no name site in Netherlands has a blog about Demonoid.com being down. As I don't speak douche, I can not translate. However TorrentFreak Decided upon there own free will to further spread this and rumors. Torrent freak has known to be a sleazy site they post false rumors and hope they turn out true. They do this in order for money and popularity.

As of earlier today, we have disabled access from users in the US to our trackers, until further notice. This goes for ALL trackers (torrentbox, podtropolis) we run. This is due to the US's hostility towards P2P technologies, and we feel with our current lawsuit brought by the MPAA, we can no longer ensure your security and privacy in the US. So, if you're outside the US, you may notice less peers.

Re: Your favourite Torrent site
Demonoid has been back up, now down again, but at least there's a message now instead of that ominous blank page.
Best tracker IMO.

Re: Your favourite Torrent site
I really like "PureTnA but am currently experiencing a problem. All I can do is get the FAQ site. Any link either brings me back to the site or answers my FAQ.
I had the same problem last week and the TnA help desk said everything was OK at their end. They said to try this proxy test. I did that and the site started working again.
Now it has gone back to FAQ.... Has anyone had a similar problem and what is the fix.

Re: Your favourite Torrent site
z mate....EZ has had problems (one site reckoned industry hackers are fucking with a lot of sites) so that link might not work not....if it don't try:

Due to some misunderstandings during the transfers of domains relating to EZTV, the domain eztv - Google Search has been temporarily lost and now appears to redirect to a google query for EZTV. While we are working on resolving this issue, please be advised that there are alternative domains leading to our site - EZTV - TV Torrents Online and EZTV - TV Torrents Online

I am limited as a Mac user, but Limewire works well.
Download.com is a good place to hunt.

Re: Your favourite Torrent site
Maybe he was refering to intellect rather than ability to download.

The Pirate Bay Developing New P2P Protocol to Replace BitTorrent
The Pirate Bay's pretty busy these days, reviving dead sites and whatnot, but their latest scheme is even bigger: They're working on an entirely new P2P protocol designed to replace BitTorrent, since BitTorrent Inc. is no longer making additions to the source code entirely open, which TPB believes grants them too much influence. The new extension, .p2p, will be backward-compatible with .torrent, and designed from the start to limit the effectiveness of spammers and anti-piracy organizations (no word on how, exactly).

I use torrent spy which has been pretty reliable.

Re: Your favourite Torrent site
The Pirate Bay Smashes 12,000,000 BitTorrent Users
Written by enigmax on April 24, 2008 The notorious Pirate Bay BitTorrent tracker has reached yet another milestone as it serves more than 12 million peers. The site is also throwing down a challenge: They want every Pirate Bay peer to tell a friend - and get 20 million on the tracker soon.
It gets bigger. And bigger. And bigger - and more notorious. And more popular.
Today, The Pirate Bay announced that they have achieved an amazing 12,000,000 peers on the tracker, surpassing the previously-amazing 10,000,000 announcement just a short while ago.
Interestingly, and particularly so for fans of private trackers, brokep announced that since 2004, there has been a massive increase in the number of users actually seeding files, rather than just being regular peers. In 2004, around 20% of the tracker population were seeds and by 2005 this had increased to 25-30%. By 2006, the seeders had increased to an impressive 35% and 2007 saw further gains to 40%.
In 2008, the seeders amount to an impressive 50% of total tracker peers, further indication if it was needed that the desire to share clearly trumps the efforts of anti-piracy agencies.
Brokep of The Pirate Bay told TorrentFreak: “We have more seeders than leechers now. It was like 25% seeders 75% leechers [in 2004/2005], since then it’s gradually shifted over to 50/50″
But a measly 12,000,000 peers isn’t enough for the Pirate Bay crew. They want more - and more. And we end with a call out to the community from Brokep: “What we want you to do is to spread the word to your friends and make more people share files! Let’s break 15 million - and 20!”
It won’t be long in coming.
