I use a little application called Snag-It. Take a snapshot of what I want, edit as required to make the circle bits etc, and then host in photobucket.
Piece-of-p*ss, mate.

I tried convertnig to unicode via Notepad "save as" and even Dreamweaver. VLC still shows only squares.
Libiconv is a wonderful gift from Linux - it installs nicely with all the shortcuts but there's no program itself - it's freaking command line tool. Even if I master it's obscure options like:
iconv [-c] [-s] [-f encoding] [-t encoding] [inputfile ...]
iconv -l
There's not freaking way I'm manually typing in hundreds of file names for mulitseason series like Prison Break.
I will check out VLC forums, see if there's another way.
Thanks anyway.

Re: Subtitles!
Make an MS Dos batch converter file, containing this:
"c:\Program Files\GnuWin32\bin\iconv" -f tis-620 -t utf-8 %1 > %1.utf8.ssa
Then just drag the file onto the icon on the desktop

Re: Subtitles!
Thanks guys, been wondering about this but not had the time to look into it.
Stickied.

Mac users can have subtitles in Quicktime, same procedure as in VLC, if they install the Perian codec pack.

I've done this. I get the output ssa file from the batch converter that uses iconv. i then point to this with VLC. But no love - I only get white boxes for the subs. I am using prison break 3x05 as a test file. I did learn how to make a batch file though - and that's kind of cool. lol

Re: Subtitles!
If you have either FFDshow or VobSub installed, it's easier to set subtitles there than fix that bloody VLC unicode problem.
I suspect Bet is not running VLC on Windows.
If you do, Bet, is there are way you can upload your converted, working subtitle file so that we can try to pinpoint the problem?

Re: Subtitles!
Yeah I'm still lost even though Bet was kind enough to e-mail me the converted subs....I'm still lost to be honest!!!
-----
Done it via Nero player....downloaded the 720 HD ones (change name but kept .ssa at the end)....need to use Angsana font and will need to tweak the delay (for episode 1 of series 3 I had to put in -7000).

Re: Subtitles!
There could be a problem with Thai fonts. I can't immediately see Angsana or any other "Thai" font on my computer, for example.
Glad you've done it with Nero, but VobSub/FFDshow is a better solution imo 'cos these are codecs used by your system and so should be available to any player. VLC has its own set of codecs, including Subtitle codec, and it's a potential pain in the ass to sort out settings for each player or try to help others to sort their player unique problems. I have a dozen of video players already and I'm not going to download Nero player just to watch Thai subtitles, or BS player, or Kplayer, or whatever. Fixing VLC makes sense only because every downloader has it just like everyone has WIMP.

Re: Subtitles!
I already had Nero so it was okay....I did also manage with one other player (maybe classic media) but while it displayed most of the characters...some were quite weird.
The subs I got (the 720 ones) were perfect for episode one (once I sorted the sync probs out) and around 98% perfect for episode two).

Re: Subtitles!
Yes, it's the fonts. I downloaded Courier Mono Thai and it works. Subtitle file works as either ANSI or UTF8 saved via notepad.
In VLC select Thai font via preferences/video/subtitles/text renderer.
"preferences/input codecs/other codecs/subtitles" has a long list of various encodings like UTF or Tis-620 but it doesn't make any difference.
Now I just need some better looking Thai fonts.
