World of Warcraft in Thailand?
Any discussions I've read were at least 1 year old so I'd like some fresh news on the state of Warcraft in Thailand. I read that it is just not very popular among Thais.
I read there was a group of Thai players playing Alliance on Kargath under the guild Holy Angels. I went to their website but it was not working. I'm a hordie anyway.
Anybody playing WoW in Thailand? If so, what server works best for you? I read some people were using a server set up for Aussies because it was the closest, but I also read that the US-East Asia internet links are so good that you may as well just use a west coast server.
I play a lvl 62 Troll Shaman named Phanquidorum on the Shadowmoon server. If you are an ajarn I'll give you free gold.
And if you saw that commercial with William Shatner and his Tauren Shaman, I'll bet I could whoop his character's a$$. I bet he doesn't even really play that character, they just drove a boatload of money to his house and he couldn't say no.

Re: World of Warcraft in Thailand?
I'm thinking of getting WOW. What a friggin coincidence that you just posted this now. It's been out in Thailand a few months now. I reckon people would use the Singapore servers... at least that's the fastest for them Philippines players.
Will let you know when I get it. Are you running it on a PC or MAC?

Re: World of Warcraft in Thailand?
I have an open box but unused cd key (1 month free) along with a 60 day prepaid card for sale. I played it with the free 10-day trial. I bought the game a while back but never found the time to get into it. If anyone is interested in buying these things off of me, let me know.

Re: World of Warcraft in Thailand?
Running it on a PC. I'm in North Carolina right now. Will be in Thailand come April/May. I will buy a 25,000 or so Baht laptop or PC.
Btw, I just bought a new comp from DELL, has Windows Vista. Several times a day, I lose internet connectivity and World of Warcraft freezes, forcing me to shut down and restart the computer. It is ridiculous to sell a product like this (VISTA).
So, don't get VISTA.

I would recommend not buying Windoze altogether Back to the topic-- the reason I asked was because Blizzard seems to be putting in features exclusive to the mac only... or so a friend of mine says. Such features include the ability to record your adventure in Quicktime format so you can play back a kick-arse battle. On the PC end you need to install a separate app for this (which some say isn't very good at what it does). On the mac it's built into WOW.

Re: World of Warcraft in Thailand?
UPDATE: Just got WOW a few days ago! WOOHOO. Addicted to it already - -"
I've created just one character so far. I let my nephew play the game while I'm looking after my baby and he's got 3 characters already - -" Reckon he just can't make up his mind.
Anyways, my character's a human warlock. I know, I know -- not the best of classes, and probably the bitchiest to use (slow damage spells, etc. etc.) Makes it more of a challenge to play, but I reckon when I'm at level 70 she'll be a real bitch of a warlock to be reckoned with!! Character's name is Thratedee, which means 'thirty-eight-D' which I reckon is the size of the tits on them 3D models LOL
Unfortunately I'm on Kaz'goroth... so I don't think I'll be seeing you for gold anytime soon eh, Taras?

Re: World of Warcraft in Thailand?
I've been playing WoW too from here in Bangkok. I got a 2mb connection from True, and my latency has been steadily 1.5-2k this week. My connections seems fine on speed test and everything else. I just don't get it, anyone experiencing the same lately?

Re: World of Warcraft in Thailand?
I'm getting shit latency -- red bars.
True doesn't give a fuck about real connection speeds. This is Thailand. No such thing as consumer protection. Their idea of consumer protection is going to 7 eleven to buy a pack of rubbers.
Cap... are you on Kaz' ? What's your character?

Re: World of Warcraft in Thailand?
I saw a documentary on the history of gaming recently. One segment was about WOW.
Apparently there are now sweatshop operations in China that have been set up to generate WOW virtual gold and then resell it for real cash.
The workers lived in dormitories, bunk beds, communal kitchens. It's a 24 hour operation. Each worker minds several bots for a long shift, eats a bowful of noodles, hits the sack and starts it all over again the next day.
Very distrurbing.

Re: World of Warcraft in Thailand?
That was going on well before WoW Charlie. Virtual cash trading was a billion dollar business before WoW even came out.
Animaster, I am on Nagrand, horde side.

Yeah, I've heard of virtual cash production before, but it was interesting to see the entire sordid and depressing means of production.
