For what it's worth I've got Hewlett Packard and wouldn't particularly recommend it. I recently had to replace the hard-drive after only two years and the thin metal covering over the speakers is rusting in places but other than that no real complaints.

Toshiba are pretty good, if ya can get a decent one for cheap I'd say grab one. PB also make pretty decent laptops IME, I've got one somewhere n I've had it for about 4 years and it spent a lot of its life being thrown in and out of my car boot, covered in oil, work boots thrown on it etc and it's still in tip top condition.......not sure if ya can buy em here though.

Horror stories are everywhere. My advise is simple. Look around at Panthip and buy what you like because in the end most manufacturers offer the same kind of quality these days IMO.
And I am happy with my lappie, its a lowly Acer with AMD processor, Nvidia chipset, Nvidia 8400, 2 Gig mem and 160Gig hdd for 31K. Gets the job done and gets abused every day (Its on for at least twelve hours a day until I get a new desktop).
