your in-law must be really stupid then... and you're not really doing a good job either
mate, for every experience such as yours, there are twenty, thirty, fifty without any problems whatsoever and with pc's that are doing the job just as the user would like it to... so, your point is???

Macs are better? It's hard to explain really. It could just be that I'm "lucky" enough to be running into these PC users that have at least a couple horror stories to tell, or the fact that when someone tries to show me something on their PC something WRONG always happens... the fact that we have a lab full of the things where there's not ONE day that goes by without someone complaining they can't log in or connect to the server or this and that...
It's quite noisy on the PC side of life. On the mac side however, people are just humming along getting work done. Maybe it's just because of the larger percentage of PC users, there's more chances of hearing about problems. But how come pretty much EVERY PC I've been introduced to has a problem (and that's BEFORE I touch them)?

She might be smarter than I give her credit for. Who else to get to do the dirty shit job of reinstalling Windoze but me? I fix it, she breaks it. That's how slavery works.

Re: Better to have Mac or PC in Bkk
I still dont get this Mac vs PC war here in the forums. Mac users are happy with their machines and recommends em. PC users bash the hell out of them and call them "brand worshippers". Geez... sounds like Obama and Hilary. We're supposed to be the adults in the classroom :D.
Why not buy both? Keep what you like. (teacher man-purses jumping to the sound of Thai karaoke music)

Bad network administration probably. The fact you don't have a lab full of Macs would also explain why you infrequently encounter problems with them.

Every time I have to sort out that shit box I'm asking myself why Micro$$$oft couldn't have designed an OS that just works properly

I think this probably says more about your knowledge and skills (or lack of) regarding Windows than it does about Microsoft. I personally don't load my PC up with anti this and anti that, in fact to do so will more than likely cause more problems than it will solve.
The fact that you have difficulties getting to grips with the OS is surely not a justification for your endless rants on the subject. Bill Gates took over the world several years ago. Get used to it (I'm paraphrasing Alan Sugar here I have to admit).

Again a silly generalisation. I reckon I have had to remove a couple of trojans in the last year of use. Took about five minutes.

I don't hate Windoze users. I hate Windoze. I pity Windoze users.

I don't need your pity. Some folks have bad computer karma or are degenerate button pushers - sounds like your in-laws suffer from some combination of problems that I couldn't even begin to guess at, but most pc users are NOT reinstalling their OS every other rmonth.
I've been a pc user for many years. I've never lost my work and data. I've purchased and have installed virus and anti-spyware software that works in the background. Your rant about macs is just silly.
Reinforces this "cult status" that some mac users embrace. Just status symbol garbage to me.

Re: Better to have Mac or PC in Bkk
If Mac users are all so happy with their lot then why the constant need to reaffirm the wiseness of their choice by slagging off PCs? They don't sound too convincing to me.

When you spend that much $$ for a home computer, you have to assert bragging rights to something. Maybe it's like buying a BMW and having to slag off all the low-class Toyota Camry and Honda Accord owners because they don't own the "ultimate driving machine." Meanwhile, you're stuck in traffic every morning and crawl to work at 10 mph just like everyone else. And when you have a holiday, you wouldn't dream of taking your ultimate driving machine on the open road for fear of pebbles that might fly up and chip the paint on your front bumper.

Funny, from reading this thread, and others, seems like it's the other way around.

Seems like you haven't read it very well then. I've seen generalised criticisms of PCs by Mac users on the whole. Unlike animaster, who claims his issue is with Windows and not its users, my issue is with Mac users and not their platform. They drone on and on about it and rear their ugly little heads in totally unrelated threads to make irrelevant comments on many ocassions.

Yes indeed. But what has that got to do with Windows?
