Re: Better to have Mac or PC in Bkk
The thing with VGA is that it's the most popular connection to projectors in Thailand. There might be excuses that they are not advanced enough or whatever, it doesn't matter a bit. If you have a PC, you can plug in ANYTHING and it will work, if you have a Mac you should worry about right adaptors and shit everywhere you go.
For example we have that pointer thing at school - you plug it in along with the projector and you can use on the screen (a whiteboard in our case) just like a mouse - you can click, draw, whatever. I have no idea if it comes with Mac support, there's a good chance that it doesn't, as with anything else.
True ADSL modem doesn't have Mac support out of a box, Sony Ericcson EDGE aircard doesn't have Mac support (or probably Macs don't have appropriate slots in the first place).
Bottom line - if you come across a device, or a program, it will most certainly work on Windows out of the box and it is very likely not work on Mac at the first try.

Re: Better to have Mac or PC in Bkk
I think it's pertinent to point out that most PC users have never actually owned a Mac, while the vast majority of Mac users have previously owned and a PC.

Exactly -- SOME of them do.
And why would you need both DVI and VGA on a 'book when you can have just one DVI and an optional adaptor for VGA? It makes it much cleaner.
Apple designs for the future 's all There was once a time when an IBM manager asked "Why would consumers want a computer... and a mouse??"
"Why would consumers want DVI?"

That's why Apple uses mini-DVI for it's consumer line. But try rigging a 30" Cinema Display at full resolution on VGA. I'm still searching for one.

And there must be a good reason why.
Your point is valid, of course - we are talking about something we know very little about. However, what I DO know somewhat scares me.

Yes, drivers for PCs, not that many have Mac drivers, and that's the problem.

This may well be true, mate. I have never owned a mac, and have very little experience of using one. The reason being, macs couldn't do what I needed doing.
My current notebook, which is a PC, does everything I need it to do. It's nearly 3 years old and is still going strong. It has *never* had a virus or any malware, and has very rarely crashed.
I'll probably replace next year, with what I'm not sure. I want the flexibility that a PC gives me, but I ain't ever going to run Vista.

I'm afraid it's simply not true.
"Most" is a deceptive word. Most don't need drivers for Windows, too, they are recognised as generic devices - USB drives, mice, modems etc etc.
There are many gadgets that always come with their own set of drivers. Take webcams, for example. I bet "most" webcams in IT stores don't have drivers for Macs.

Macs might not need webcams, users do.

Re: Better to have Mac or PC in Bkk
wasn't talking about that. macs generally don't need drivers to get peripherals to work

What do you mean? Any peripheral need some sort of a driver. It might work with generic driver for this class of devices or it might need proprietary one.
Macs are not any different. I believe they come with preinstalled generic drivers, just like Windows, but proprietory drivers for Macs are a lot more rare.
