I'm here to give some information about my experience with Buddy Broadband. You've probably already guessed they're not my buddies anymore, in fact the thoughts of what I'd like to do whoever administers that sorry-excuse for a company are pretty unbuddylike right now.

Anyway, before I start I want to preempt any of you out there who are tempted to respond with -'oh but what if you're just a competitor who wants to harm this company for your own benefit etc. etc.' by making it clear: I'm not interested, save your typing for someone who cares. Really. I'm not in the mood for any conspiracy theorists.

In any case, I'm not touting for any internet company, for all I know they're all just as bad as Buddy. Buddy happen to be the only ones I've tried. And if any of you after reading this still want to join them, be my guest, it's your life.

In short, I'm putting this out there not for my benefit, not even to take revenge for the nonsense this company has put me through but because somehow I feel enough empathy to try to prevent others from having to go through what I did.

To make a long story short, Buddy Broadband or to be more specific, my Buddy Broadband service is rubbish, absolute and utter rubbish. I signed up for their 1 megabyte service and speedtested it (speedtest.net- feel free to check your own bandwidth, it's easy and fun - or painful as the case may be) regularly. I never got 1 megabyte. Never. Sometimes it got up close enough for me to hope, but that was on rare occasions. My average speed has been somewhere in the region of 200-300 download and well less than 100 upload. According to my latest real-player test, I have the speed of a 28.8k modem. It basically means, all video is out and most audio too. I can send email sure, but I can't use youtube or even listen to a radio stream sometimes. Often even news websites take interminably long to load. So, in short I've been paying for broadband and getting dial-up.

Of course I called them regulary, hoping that this was a fixable problem and I got all the reassurances that it would be dealt with etc... temporary issue.. blah blah blah. Nothing changed in two months. So polite, so nice, so utterly and frustratingly ineffective. I've given up and asked them to take the whole thing away. I've signed up for six months but as far as I'm concerned they're in breach of contract; my contract says 1 megabyte bandwidth, I barely get 20% of that on average, however I don't know exactly where I stand legally. I'll keep you updated if you're interested.

Long and short of it is in the title really, this company is poison. If anybody has got any better alternatives, I'd love to hear.

Well, maybe they're good for some people; can't say I'm well disposed to them, but I'm willing to be fair...straw poll?

I would not REALLY recommend true per se, but they seem to have the most (let's say...) consistent service so far. TOT blocks YouTube content (although not on iPhones and iPodTouches... idiots haha) and is prone to slow-downs due to the government putting their fat flat noses into your business (it is, afterall, government pwned). True is the only other company I know of, and based by my experience with 3 TOT lines in school and my 2 True connections at home, True wins in terms of allowing you to browse what you want and speed.

I think True has finally stuck it to the government leeches and told the fuckers that they can't-do-what-they-want-to-do-because-it's-technically-unconstitutional-aka-illegal-in-the-first-place.

But remember - the government can still fuck with your internet habits as long as you use TOT

its supposed to be broadband here...i have a wireless router..did speedtest.thaivisa.com. the speed is night and day, when its night and day

in the mornings, it flys, at around 5-10pm, its slow as can be. i thought that was a dedicated 1m?

I have "free" internet at the place I live now and it ranges from really fast to omgwtf you mother f**king bag of damn fecal feeding shit (slow internet gets on my tits a bit incase you didn't notice)

The last place I lived though charged 500 a month for the net and it was lightening fast, not quite comparable to my UK connection but still good.

I think it just comes down to location more than anything

You're contract probably stipulates that you have to pay out the balance of the contract regardless of whether you have service or not. Just don't pay it and gleefully burn every letter you receive from them.

I had similar trails from IpStar satellite service a few years ago. They eventually came by and retrieved their dish a year after I stopped paying them for nothing.

I just purchased a new laptop with microsoft vista. My existing Buddy service - connected to my PC works okay, but my new laptop will not accept the Buddy system. What can I do?

If I were you I would phone buddy and talk to them in specific about your problem
