First you have to check to see if True internet is available at your new house. Many places they only have TV. Your best bet is to go to a True office and ask.

For the internet it often depends if you are on a TOT or a Telecom Asia line. TA became True.

Yes, it's all very confusing. I've read that CAT has a better rep than True, but I have no idea how I get a CAT internet line set up - or a True one, for that matter, other than to visit the shop in the Mall.

I don't especially want a home phone line, as my mobile is handier and with me all the time. I suppose I shall have to have someone's phone line to get ADSL though.

Also, how do I get sorted out paying fr the electricity and water? Can you choose your supplier for lekkie?

I'm reasonably happy with my True service.

Signed up for True ASDL. Signed an agreement with CAT, TOT and True. Got the modem and the line installed (1000B if I remember right).

CAT is for long distance...you know..phone sex witht the ex.
TOT is for local calls.
True is for the internet...no dial up charges

Electricity and water, they put the bill in your mail box (and those above). You go to the 7-11 on the corner and pay the bills. Completely pain free and you get to ogle the girls at 7-11.

The electric and water are billed to the "house", not an owner.

I signed up for True about a month ago. I'm paying for 2.5mps and, according to the True Speed Test (Speed Test ), I'm currently getting about 107.6KPS!!!!

Last night, they said that there was a problem with the local cables and that is would

OK, my wife was on the phone to True while I was posting. They told me now shut off my connection for a few minutes & then reconnect. I'm now at 1,730kps. Still not the 2.5mps that I'm paying for, but it's a lot closer! I think my cheap (free) modem limits me to 2mps. I'll have to upgrade it next payday.

So, I'll have to give True a tentative thumbs up.

The best internet connection I have had in Thailand is CAT wifi. Check whether your new place has wifi and whether your computer has the relevant software.

If not then True are infinitely superior to TOT, especially when something goes wrong.

TOT - no internet connection for five months and whenever we told them they seemed to respond along the liones of " Oh that's interesting, thankyou" and did nothing except send more bills.

I assume you mean water BILLS are hand delivered? Yes, that's what happened on Samui when I had a bungalow there, and the lekkie. The bill was left stuffed in the door jamb.

I hardly think I can leave a note for the waterman as people do for the milkman in England - 'Three gallons today please - just leave it in the old oil drum on the doorstep' !

So what about telly? I don't watch it much and I think cable will do - I don't want some platinum satellite package with a zillion crappy minority-viewed shopping channels at some exorbitant sum per month.

How do I get cable - just go to the True shop and ask what they have, then book it?

And is there a waiting period for the phone and internet and TV before installation?

True for television can be there in a couple of days. They have all sorts of packages. They will bring the dish to your house and install it as well.
As for the phone hopefully you are in an area that has free lines. If so a week or so. If not be prepared to freak out.

I would try to do as much through true as I could. yes they stink but at least they work.

Fix google up true visions look at it in English and decide what is best for you. You might be able to get cable tv depending on where you are. I cant hence the dish.

I really just want a basic package - I like things like Discovery etc, and so does the g/f, but I hink they can;t bad had apart from as an extra to one of the packages.

As long as the g/f has her soap channels and I can watch the odd movie and maybe the Beeb news, I;d be happy.

Nor do I really want a land-line phone - my DTAC contract is only 75 satang per minute and I can call a UK mobile for 7 baht/min using 009, as well as UK landlines for 2 baht a minute and 6 baht to a UK mobile using a Thook Dee card.

I really only want the internet but it looks like I'll have to have a phone and basic telly package just so's I can get online.

Is that the bottom line?

Buy a phone card, its 1 baht a minute from the same phone with a long prefix typed in.

Which one is that? I used the Thook Dee card but it's only a baht less per minute to a mobile (cellphone) in the UK than 009, and the line quality can often be poor. It's 2 baht to a UK landline. However, the only landline I call is my mums, as the kids and my brother all use their mobiles all the time and are more easily get-attable.

The long prefix doesn't need to be typed in every time with Thook Dee if you register your phone number when you get your first card. You just call the customer services people who register your number against the card, then next time, you do it yourself once for each card you buy.

No more typing in the prefix before each call!
