Who was that cranky woman at iStudio Siam Paragon (Friday the 10th)?
Ok, so there I was, just visiting iStudio at Siam Paragon when this farang woman comes in with some questions for the staff. Apparently she had a problem with her mac.
First comes one staff member. Then another. And another. And then one more. Soon there are clueless Thai staff surrounding her. You get the picture -- I'm sure most of you have been in the same situation - a simple question turns into a fiasco with several staff people looking cluelessly at you as if you had done something wrong. I can certainly relate to what this woman was feeling.
Then, in a fit of desperation, she left. Quite quickly too, swearing nicely like "Stupid Idiots..." as she stamped out the door. I think it was when they asked her "Did you buy your mac at this store?" and she was like "Of course! Why do you think I'm here??"
Well.
First of all, it happened so fast that I wasn't able to be a hero and save the world. Mind you, it was probably something -I- could have fixed. And because of that little scene I've been thinking of it over and over and over. Stupid me. I didn't act fast enough. I could have sworn the clueless Thai staff there were onto it... but I should have read the signs (ie: the amassing crowd of staff) and said a word before it turned into a "I'm-gonna-hate-macs-for-this" situation. I feel like Hiro Nakamura, from the TV series "Heroes": I had the power to save the situation but I just didn't.
So here I am, hoping that that nice lady turned cranky might be an Ajarner, and hopefully I can offer an answer to the problem.
So if you're that person who was there at iStudio Siam Paragon on Friday, October the 10th at around a quarter to three, make some noise here, and I'll try my best to make sure you don't think that you've made a mistake with your mac purchase. I for one, can vouch for the store - I've bought several things from there and I know that, with a little patience, the people can actually be quite nice and accommodating. You do need to get past the usual cows that come to you at first, but as with every service here in Thailand, you need to be VERY patient.
Oh, and my apologies again for not saying anything right away. To be honest, I wasn't really in any position to offer any advice as long as you were surrounded by a couple of completely baffled morons. I was kind of waiting for the crowd to clear before I was going to say "Sorry... what did you say your problem was with your mac?"
Alright. There's my shot. Now all I need to do is wait.

like when I asked a question in home pro, i just wanted to know where the abthroom mats were. 20 of them came over. great fun. I run away from them now though as they always follow me around, you can lose them quite easily if you go round the fridges.

I'm trying to work out whether you are a lisping body builder or whether you just made a simple typing error.

Re: Who was that cranky woman at iStudio Siam Paragon (Friday the 10th)?
Went to a computer store yesterday, wanted to purchase some hardware. I saw on the box, that it was compatable with everything but vista. The wifey got the sales ass. across and we had a chinwag.
He assured us that the next line in this product would work with vista. but we would have to wait.
As we live a good distance from said store I persisted.
So after he went, we got another ass. who gave us the same line.
So I asked them if we could plug it into a laptop with vista, and see what happens.
No way will it work cos the prog. disc is blah blah blah.
okay then but can we try.
Lo and behold, it fired up, no need for a disc. Lot of head scratching followed, and all the asses drifted away.
I took it home and installed it, works great.

That was a good "My Day in Bangkok" read there theanimaster, thanks for sharing and follow up on the situation with the lady here, on Ajarn. I don't think she's a member, good try though.

Re: Who was that cranky woman at iStudio Siam Paragon (Friday the 10th)?
Several months ago I had to get a cracked screen on my Palm PDA repaired. Armed with a list of Palm dealers in Bangkok I wandered from Fortunetown IT mall to Pantip Plaza - getting blank looks and shaken heads everywhere. Just as I was about to give up, my wife suggested we go to the place I bought it (secondhand) and see what they could do. I showed it to the guy there and he instantly said "It'll be 1200 baht for a new screen, please wait 20 minutes" (actually, he said it in Thai, not English). 15 minutes later, it came back as good as new!
I later traded my old Palm in for a O2/Dupod. I wanted to put a Thai/English dictionary on it and the only one I could find on the internet cost about 1000 baht. I was back at the store (Tony Phone at MBK) yesterday and asked if they had a Thai/English Dictionary. They fellow (I think the same one) asked if I had a Thai Keyboard installed. When I said yes, he told me that it would take 5 minutes and cost 50 baht. 50 baht and 5 minutes later I had a Thai/English Dictionary installed on my phone!
There are a few competent people around, but you do have to look for them!

I was there a while back and had to take a squirt in the worst way. I asked where the toilet was and ended up in the bathroom mat/commode section!
