    PS3 or Blu ray

From what I've been looking at the PS3 seems the one to buy because it can also play games. That would be nice, as well as watch Blu ray quality films on a HD TV.

    What do you think?

    Any more info out there?

The cost of a Blu ray is around 17 - 19k Sony/Pioneer/LG. (The ones that can play multi-regional Bluray discs).
    Don't know the cost of a PS3.

The films are expensive here in LOS though, about 1400 baht. the copies they sell are not actually blueray films, but normal DVDs in blueray boxes from what I understand, someone may have to confirm this. You can download blueray films though, but they are big files and may not play in the machine you buy, the players are also a lot cheaper overseas, a player here costs around 20 thousand baht and in the UK they are around 8 thousand baht, may want to wait until the price comes down, or get a multi-region one shipped over.

    Cheers DaveyG,

Might just download them onto the laptop and play them through the tele.

Also thinking of buying the Samsung LED 55inch (109k) that will really bring the Bluray films to life?

Only 15mm thick with a great spec.
But as you say feel a stupid buying now at that price, again will probably wait a month or so.
Problem is we break up for the summer next week and I will have time to do stuff.

I have a PS3. Another great feature is the ability to surf the net on it.

If your intent on getting something with blu-ray better off with the ps3. Can do lots more than just be a movie player. Not sure on the costs here though. Plus you can surf the net and download films on the ps3. I think I remember seeing a "rent a movie" feature where you pay a small amount to d/l it and get to keep it for a given amount of time. but I might have dreamt that.

Yeah, makes sense to just download and plug into the TV direct. careful with Samsung TVs they generally have a bad rep, the koreans are just not as good as the Japs when it comes to TVs. Also when I've been to TV shops I've looked at the Samsungs and the picture is very unstable pretty much on all of them, you can see the artefacts moving around.

Nah, Samsung TVs are fine, and have very decent specifications for the outlay. They're particularly good for gaming as well.

Yeh my mates are telling me to change my Sony TV's to Samsung.

I've got a 46, 40 and 32 inch LCD Sony Bravia's and was thinking of replacing the 40 inch in the living area to a 55 LED. Keeping the 32 and 46 inch in the bedrooms. All are wall mounted and I remember paying 9000 baht for each wall bracket (Sony). Total cost 2 years ago was 276 000 baht! Just think what I get now man!

LED is the way forward though, they are truly amazing and unbeatable for picture definition.

A PS3 costs about 14,000 baht nowadays. The PS3 is not region free for movies though, so make sure you get the right region. I've downloaded some HD movies and they do look good. Most of the torrents seem to be in .mkv format, so you need to do this conversion to make them play on the PS3.

It's easy to do. Just follow the instructions. You will probably need double layer discs for the majority of movies though. The files are ususally just a little too big for a standard DVD.
