I think, if it makes it to THailand by my birthday, it maybe that my next phone will be the Desire Z
Even though I don't like the Android icons, you can customize it. I don't have to wait until updates from MS or Apple to do things I want to do. and it has a pull out keyboard. Why not.
I would have to get a TOT 3G Sim if I want the 3G to work.
So, it'll be between something like that and an iPhone.
Boy, those dots are small.
It does the trick, I suppose, but comparing to Android's swipe right/left it looks slightly trickier. I've got "dots", too, never bothered to click them. I've got only five screens, though, and mostly use only the central three.
They are pretty easy to press actually.
But HTC Sense has this update which works nicely
Weird because it looks just like expose in the Mac. Why didn't they put expose in the iPhone? God knows.
You can have it on the PC as well. Actually, almost every UI feature on the mac can be done on the PC with an add-on. The one that does that exposure type thing is called switcher (Switcher for Windows Vista) Probably more customizable than the vanilla one for MacOS. Kind of like the old saying "there's an app for that."
By the way, that SenseUI with the exposure-esq interface looks quite nice.
Desire Z. Hands down the best keyboard. Programmable dedicated keys and all.
Nice look, solid build (from the reviews) and I still have an HTC Touch. 4 years old, 200mhz and works like a champ.
I was just reading my posts. Boy, I sure talk a lot of shit....
To me, at this point, it looks like iPhone's popularity in Thailand has been reduced to just a hype, a fad that is going to pass - I believe it's the same crowd in roughly the same numbers that also showed up for the launch of some new donut shop yesterday.
They just follow their trend setters, and while the life is sweet while you are "in", once the trend has changed, your product is totally out. Business people can quickly open shops following new fads and keep riding the wave, but iPone is a product, it can't be turned into something else, like trendy buns being replaced by trendy donuts.
Ah, but they have iPads for those bored with iPhones, and then Apple TV or whatever.
Two years ago iPhone clearly stood out, today Apple needs a new killer product, and they will find something, as usual. Bad news for iPhone, though.
Apple
OK. I done did it. I just reserved my iPhone 4 (black)
5,350 baht. I'm #46 in the queue at the local true in Big C (can only imagine in BKK). Waiting time around 3 weeks.
I'll give a full review when I get it.
Look, it's Steve when he had hair! Was he any less cranky then?
Motherfuckers. That's how they turn you into a fanboy. Here they have me waiting for it, like a 9 year old waiting for Christmas morning.
Fuck.
Where is my retina display? I long for it!
Overrated. Looks nice but can't really tell a major difference between it and the 480x800 res found on high end androids.
I picked up the iphone4 I reserved from True today and played around with it for a little while. Its a nice looking device but feels very fragile. I was paranoid of dropping the thing every time I pulled it out of the sleeve. The camera takes good photos and video capture quality is nice. Its much faster but in the end it still feels like the same phone I've been using for almost a year. Kind of a boring and limited interface once you get used to it. Haven't tried out angry birds on it yet. Still contemplating whether to jailbreak it or not. It would be an easy decision for myself but I'm not sure if blowing the warranty is worth it to jailbreak for my gf.
If it was yours maybe, but I'd say leave it as it is for your gf. Girls wouldn't know a jailbroken iPhone from a non-jailbroken one, and I don't think she would care.
I was thinking about this thing. And it made me think of the macbook. There was a time when they bumped up the macbook to the point where it was the same computer as the macbook pro sans the plastic. And when Apple does this, it usually mean a major update is on the way. Sure enough, a few months later we got the Corei macbook pros with upgraded graphics.
They now come out with, without turning it on, a real leap on the iPhone. There was the iPhone, 3G and 3Gs. Evolution of the same phone basically.
Then iPhone 4. A completely redesigned phone. Basically another phone. From the inside out. Very fast processor (1ghz for an Apple phone is incredible), an overkill in display (resolution os off the charts), and on and on. Really is another phone.
BUT, it's the same software with minor updates. So, if you use a 3Gs and a 4 side by side there is hardly a difference.
Which makes me think, in a few months, considering what's been happening with Android and now Windows Phone 7 with a radical OS unlike anything else, that Apple is setting up a MAJOR update that will really set the iPhone 4 apart and push this new hardware. Not to mention OSX Lion. It's all going to come in a big show. Apple is getting left behind a bit and they'll come back in February with new announcements.
Either they will come back to play (like MS did) or it'll be more of Steve saying "Ain't that cool" a lot and dazzling us with how much money they made in 2010.
Let's see.
