This is a pretty amusing true story about some guy that lost his phone. I love the part where he was tracking it to the various mobile shops.
How Plan B found the Droid I was looking for
I like that story, if i buy a Galaxy S 2 i'll have that app. Does Apple have anything similar or can it be used on apple as well?

I'm not sure if his software works on Apple phones but I did try it out on my Galaxy S 2 after reading the article. Sure enough, I was able to install it remotely via the Android marketplace webpage as I had already registered my device on there and within 30 seconds after installing it, I received emails with my gps coordinates. Pretty cool that I could install it after the fact.
Apple does have similar apps:

Whether or not you can install it remotely, I don't know. Perhaps with their new cloud additions to ios it is doable.
The only bad thing in Thailand is that they are usually too smart for this type of thing. The first thing they do when they steal a phone is turn it off and remove the sim card. Then they take it to a shop and have it wiped so passwords and sim locks won't even be much help there.
That doesn't matter on iOS. Even with a jailbreak app I use -- you can remotely have the phone call your number -- so you know the NEW number :D Remote installation would be great though. I've counted 4 friends (or friends of friends rather) who have lost their iPhones and were asking if they could track it down. Poor bastards.
I wish I could afford to make just a dollar a year.

Nobody was questioning if ios had it or not but whether it was activated by default or whether you could do it remotely. The idea of Plan B is that the owner of the device hadn't set anything up ahead of time but was able to do it all remotely. Isn't the link I provided the same "Find my iphone" thing you are referring to or is there some newer improved version that doesn't use the MobileMe service?
