    3G or not 3G

I have just returned to Thailand and tried to connect to the internet on my phone , usually a " E " shows up at the top of the screen and I can surf.

Despite numerous attempts and restarts I get nothing.....Has edge gone tits up ?
My next door neighbours have challenged me to a water fight , so I am just writing this while I am waiting for the kettle to boil .

Nope. EDGE is still running. 296 Kbps. At least on AIS.

I have AIS 3G. I get 2mb for up to 2gigabytes and then goes down to about 384kb/sec. I use it for a laptop via wifi and also android info. It can also access EDGE.

Now are you sure you got a 3G phone? The smaller SIM card? Did you check phone settings for 2G/3G toggle? It is fine for email, regular google, reading NY times etc, bogs down with youtube and cant handle streaming video.

When 3G is availiable I get 3G on my phone, cuts over to H when using HSDPA, then if in Edge get the E. Has been availiale nonstop for the several months at my location. You can also access 3BB wifi nets in most malls if you buy the correct package. Mine is 799 baht a month. Prepaid.

Hi happychappy, I know exactly what's going on with your device. It's call "Thai companies lying to the public to make more money." 3G bandwidth is expensive. EDGE is cheap. Simple! I know people who has AIS and they are constantly on EDGE and rarely get 3G. I'm with True Move (best company for internet devices in Thailand). Most of the times I'm on 3G. If you want a company for the internet go with True. There's a reason why AIS's 3G service is cheaper than True's. Even with True they screw you too. First month you get True, 3G is blazing fast. Faster than my wifi. Second month it slows down SIGNIFICANTLY. Still 100 times better than AIS though. Use AIS and websites takes well over a minute to load a single page.
