I was thinking more of the quality of their products rather than the company's market value. Windows 7 is the best version of Windows yet. They got badly burned by Vista and learned from their mistakes. The Surface Pro and Windows 8 look even better, and of course a tablet device running a full-blown OS would be be a big challenge to its competitors including Apple. It might flop of course. I'm just staking a lot on the Surface. I agree that Windows Phones are nothing to get excited about.
Back to the "Maps failure", this reminds me of the iPhone 4 "antenna losing reception when you hold it" problem. That was a hardware problem and this is a software problem, but the common element is an irrational media-engineered overreaction. How many iPhone 5 users are going to change their phone, just because Apple Maps isn't working as it should? Or how many people are going to change their mind abut buying an iPhone 5? In both cases, I'd say a tiny percentage. It's no big deal ... the Maps app is just an app. The average iPhone user doesn't care if they're using the Apple Maps app or if they have to continue using the Google Maps app, as long as they have a maps app that they can use. It's a temporary embarrassment to Apple, but it will have very little impact on the popularity of the iPhone 5. Does it indicate that Apple is declining since the passing of Steve Jobs? No, that's like announcing the decline of Pacquaio because he's bitten by a mosquito on the way to the ring.

Average person on this planet is dumb as a rock. Just use Google maps on Safari.![]()
I was able to use iOS 6 maps' turn-by-turn navigation on an iPhone 5 last week when we went to Hua-hin. It's not bad at all! It got us from the resort back to our house in Bangkok, and the tracking is VERY accurate!! Heaps better than the shit tracking that Google Maps had -- but then again, I'm not so sure that's an issue with Google Maps.
Still, there's MUCH to improve with iOS 6 maps including:
• bookmarks linked to contacts -- it keeps throwing me off when I click on the address in my contacts rather than using the actual bookmarked location!
• transit directions
• clearer markings for transit stops
• clearer aerial views
• better search returns for places in Thailand
In addition, they should make it easier to track other people inside Maps. For example, I had to constantly switch between Find-My-Friends and Maps when navigating and seeing where the rest of our group was (we took two cars).
But yeah, turn-by-turn navigation in iOS 6 is overshadowed by the MapsGate thing!! It's absolutely spot-on. If only Apple can get landmarks correct!!
I wish I could afford to make just a dollar a year.

Not into that at all. For me they are Garmin, Sygic, NAVV, and TomTom for GPS navigation..
I was also very satisfied with Apple Maps. When i went to Bangkok with my dad, the iPad easily guided us to our hotel and we didnt even have to look at any signs, just follow Siri's instructions.
I thought this was kind of funny:
Apple Maps leads Australian drivers to potentially deadly destination, police say - San Jose Mercury News
Yea... They needed a year of beta testing first.
Google Maps App is back in the App Store today. I'm happy it's back. Apple Maps has been improving gradually, but Apple must have realized they weren't going to catch up with Google and cut their losses. Just downloaded it and it's looking so much cooler than the previous Google Maps app for iOS.
Wasn't the old one Apple's own app but using Google maps data while the new one was built by Google from the ground up? Apple polishes their OS well but when it comes to map Applications, Google is second to none. What Apple needs to do now is allow Siri integration with Google maps and allow users to set Google maps as their default map and navigation software.
Tungsten, does Google Maps do turn-by-turn navigation on your iPhone? I can't seem to get it to work on mine. All it shows is the PREVIEW mode, no turn-by-turn.

Eh, just found my answer:
Thailand isn't in that list (even if you scroll down to where you'd expect it to be) as of now.
Yes and if the old one had been completely built by Google, I'm sure it would have been superior. But Google weren't really interested until they saw demand for iOS 6 devices increasing rapidly - despite problems with Apple Maps and Wi-Fi. Then they knew they had to develop their own maps app for iOS to get access to all those customers and advertising revenue, and they knew there was a very good chance of Apple giving up its own flawed maps app. And the new GM may accelerate the demand for iOS 6 devices, especially if Google bring our a version for the iPad soon. So ... Yes Google are the best at map apps (bit they have had 10 years to tweak GM and build up their data) but In my view Apple are still better than Google in OS development. And the new GM will help to showcase iOS 6 features. But it's pretty close and I'd like to see the Android GM running on Jellybean.
