Which Course Books?

Hi folks,

I am doing some voluntary teaching in rural Thailand soon (chivalry is not dead) and I can't get much sense out of the school as to which curriculum/course books they use. I was told they use the Ministry of Education curriculum for English teaching. Does anyone know if these course books can be obtained outside Thailand. I would like to have a look prior to departing the UK. I did ask the Thai Embassy in London but they thought I was probably a farang nutter.

What are you saying there ? How can this help her(or him) ?

I tried to find you some links but unfortunately i see they are not to be found over the internet (or maybe i'm looking in the wrong places, i'm no google expert)

Asking the Thai Embassy can't be the anwser, you need to locate an addrees for a University or High School in Thailand and mail or e-mail them for detalis on where yo ucan find teh appropiate course books. What age range are you talking about ? Because if it's elementary or primary school I think regular course books used in all other countries might work. There was a Book, that also had an Activity Book attached some time ago, it was called 'Imagining English' . I always thought it was very good. try to find that if it's still around.

Re: Which Course Books?

Reading interesting books written in english language with a dictionary is helpful. Develop your secondary language now!

Re: Which Course Books?

Hope this is still helpful.
My sons' school uses the Longman's New Opportunities series for teaching English (in both primary and secondary schools). There are also lesson notes that the teachers wrote for teaching grammars and novels (eg. Daddy Long Leg) for reading classes.

Although this is a school in BKK so quite possibly the standard of teaching is higher than elsewhere in Thailand, I think the idea is the same. Just may have to use the lower level book than that specified for an age group.

Good luck.

Re: Which Course Books?

My school uses Headway books - the students and teachers seem to be happy with them.
