Try on soi 3/1 couple of restaurants there wityh shisha pipes and decent humus and pavement side viewing. I don't know the name, but I go to the one about 20 m up the soi on the right.
Jimbo. I won't be going near any such types. Not at all. Not near any of 'em come the evening. Trust me. Would I lie to you? OK, I might talk to one or two. Perhaps check up on their buffalos....
<<Just head down and stroll the soi and pick the best looking one, it's only about 100 yards from one end to the other.>>
I did that last time. There was so much choice I became confused, disoriented and had to seek solace in the comfort of, erm, well, see jimbo's post.

Whores and Arab food! Mmhh.. interesting... Well I used to go this place very often.. what I do (if freinds around) is I hit the "Gullivers".. spend some time there.. once you done you just walk cross to this Little Arabic street.
My favorite is a Yamani restaurant there called Petra.. great food like Mandi which is so famous in the middle east. The only annoying thing is that there is a man with a big belly who always shouts and break your ear. Just take it as a fun and enjoy the food.
Go for, Fish barbq, mandi, naan, minced meat, okra curry, etc.. the typical midle east stuffs...
Another notable place is Al-Hussain.. basically serves juicy indian/pak curries. The best of this restaurant is the Nan, which is simply amazing. Go for couple of Nan, Safron rice, Fish masala, mutton curry and Daal.. very tasty..
I tried the Egyptian restaurant called Nefartiti.. but... not my taste... The Iraqi one is also very good (didn't taste like an bomb though :-) )
50 baht kebabs are fantastic on soi 3. get them from the muslim birds on the right about 100 metres up
