Re: Oh My Tomcat!

Have you had the coca cola chicken wings sweeping across China? My room-mate made some the other day via a recipe off Dave's, and except for the excessive grease they weren't half bad. Diabetics beware.

Heresy is in using cream, Tom Kitty. Cream was a luxury. Yes, I know the peasants taught the nobility how to eat.

Re: Oh My Tomcat!

Crepes - make them in the morning for someone you want to thank!

1 cup milk
1 egg
melt one tablespoon of butter

Mix those three ingredients together.

Next mix in 1 cup white flour.

You have to use a non-stick pan. The size of the pan will determine the size of your crepes.

Pour some oil on the pan and soak up excess with a paper towel.

Pour on crepe batter, just enough to barely cover the bottom of the pan. Turn the pan from side to side so that the batter spreads thinly across pan.

Flip with the sides start to turn up.

The other side doesn't need much more time.

I put fruit in the middle, along with ice cream or whipped cream, then I roll them up, and pour Canadian maple sirop on top. No Canadian maple sirop? Brown sugar, icing sugar, something sweet should do.

I've gone that route...it takes too long.

The back door is faster and there are no dishes to wash.

Re: Oh My Tomcat!

I tried this recipe out a few weeks ago. SD loved it and I think you will, too. Farfalle is bow-tie or butterfly-shaped pasta. This is a pasta salad. However, don't refrigerate the pasta: even DeCecco has a tendency to turn chewy when cold.

TOMCAT'S FARFALLE WITH TUNA AND CAPERS (#2)

In a large salad bowl combine:

500 g cooked, cooled to room temperature, farfalle (in the collander, toss the pasta with 2 tablespoons of olive oil to prevent sticking)
425 g drained, flaked tuna (use the finest quality you can find)
250 g chopped cheese (I used mozzarella di bufala, but would recommend something stronger...maybe a (non-Danish) feta, or 200 g of a crumbled blue)
2/3 cup pitted, roughly chopped black olives (I always use kalamata, but I imagine any olives marinated in a salt brine would do.
2/3 cup capers (fry these in 2 tablespoons of olive oil until crispish...it really sharpens the flavor)
2/3 cup fresh basil, chopped
1-2 cloves minced garlic
6 spring onions, chopped

Toss everything with 1/2-2/3 cup lemon juice (depending on how tart you like your dressing) and season to taste with salt and freshly ground pepper. Add chopped strips of lemon rind to add a little more zing when this is eaten.

I've seen variations on this recipe from too many sources to list here.

Re: Oh My Tomcat!

Just tried out TC's recipe and, I have to say, I was very impressed. Lemon and pasta is not something that I would have thought of trying but it really is lovely. There were a few changes that had to be made though due to a lack of Western food supplies ie mozarella and virgin oil and also the necessity of adding mushrooms so that I get my daily protein intake. No fine wine to wash it down with either, but a gin and tonic afterwards went down a treat. Here's what the Lemon Pasta looked like (camera batteries were low so the auto-focus didn't really work):

Next time I really will try to find some mozarella but feta was an adequate substitute.

Dude, you need to mix some other colors in there like brown mushrooms - not enoki.

Blecht.
