    Gian's (part 2)

As we are already in Jomtien for the Manboob Competition, SD and I headed straight for Gian's, anticipating a wonderful dinner: we weren't disappointed. Although not on the menu, I asked Chef Gian if the kitchen had any mussels. Certo, he replied, they had just arrived from Australia. I asked for them in a simple white wine sauce. They were perfect. SD tried the home-smoked salmon in a very light, citrus-garlic bath that still leaves a tingle on my tongue, so delightful was it. Unimaginatively, I followed with the tuna (once again, beautifully prepared, by which I mean not overcooked), while SD had homemade ravioli stuffed with spinach and ricotta in a light, garlicky butter sauce. I can't remember when I've tasted better.

For dessert we had the ubiquitous tiramisu. What makes Gian's far tastier is that he adds espresso liquor to the confection. Why many other Italian restaurants don't do this is beyond me....it adds so much more flavor.

I should also comment that the table bread, essentially warm pizza base, is excellent as is the service. Once again, I was pleased to see so many Italians among our fellow diners...a fact that adds to the ambiance.

The bill came to B2600 for 2, but that's because I managed to absorb 4 bakso cocktails. Remove those, and the bill is a more reasonable B1800 for a wonderful dining experience.

    Now, back to the competition.

Tkitty, nice review. You're right most restaurants don't do tiramisu right.
