I had lunch in the Bull's Head yesterday with Stickman. We ordered two Cokes and told the waitress to give us a few minutes to look at the menu. She gave us half an hour. During that lifetime 30 minutes, we watched a delivery of Carlsberg shoved through the front door sucking out all the air-conditioning in the process. Whatever happened to the good old tradesman's entrance? remember those? I then began to realise why we were the only people in the place. I had the Fish and chips and Sticky had a steak pie and chips. The food was good but it seemed to have gone up considerably since I was last there. The bill came to 915 baht and there was nothing alcoholic on it.
As 1.00 came, the downstairs section did fill up with a few miserable-looking expats and a whole host of characters to remind me why I don't go out anymore.

I think there's only a couple of properly built pubs in Thailand. One that springs to mind is the Green Man in Phuket. I was talking to a guy who owns a bar on Samui yesterday (PFC Bar). He's having a long wooden bar installed as most of his customers want to watch the sport and get drunk. None of the Thais could work out why the customers didn't want to seat around fold up tables & chairs.
The food isn't particularily cheap there, but you compare it with the Dubliner and you'll think its fairly good value.
I like the 'miserable-looking expats' bit....
...and don't get me started on the tradesman's....

That does seem pricey. I used to go there for weekday lunch regularly a while back for a plate of spag bol and a few pints, and the bill was always way less than what you guys paid for two dishes. Never had any dramas though I did once see a bunch of American girls get rather stroppy at the slow service for their own orders.
The last few Brit Pubs I went to were
- the Black Swan - decent enough until one Brit bloke got ugly with the management, followed by a way too loud and frankly dodgy cover band for such a small pub
- Robin Hood - again, crap crap crap music.
- Londoner - only for the quiz, and then only once
- Irish Xchange - lunchtime pints of Guiness as a reward after a hectic trip to the consular section of the Oz embassy. Quiet, apart from the friendly clank of balls where a bunch of Thai business suits were playing pool in the corner, and discreet yet attentive staff. Two pints of the dark stuff, two ashtray changes, and left alone to read a few finds snaffled from Dasa Book Shop prior to the embassy run. I've got a ton of consular work to be done at the embassy on Sathorn on and off for the next few months and I appear to have found my watering hole of choice.

Added after 20 minutes:
Hey! Just realised something - where's your review of Bobby's Arms? That place is so grim, particularly its threadbare yet horrendously expensive pool tables, that, despite being 'British', or should that be 'English', it has somehow come to resemble a horrible cross between a suburban Oz beerban that's been shrunk, and a flyblown rural redneck Oz pub far out beyond the black stump.
cheers

Does 'The Wall' on surasak (near surawong) constitute as a Western Pub?
Vaguely, I suppose, but I'm so uninspired by the place, I can't be bothered to write about it.
