Hope anyone knows: Friends told me about this event happening sometimes around Songkran. Has anyone heard of it? What type of films are shown. Where exactly does it take place...
I just googled their website... PhanganFilmFestival .com - lots of info there...
It takes place on 5th and 6th April 2008 - Venue is not yet announced, but I was told it will be on a beach somewhere in the North. Looks like good fun!
Thanks for the web-site Bill, interesting stuff. I'm definitely keen to make a trip over the water to see some of these films. I'm up for 'The Power of Community: How Cuba Survived Peak Oil,' 'Hawaii: Message in the Waves' and 'Heart of a Soul Surfer.'
^ Just don't set your heart on a particular movie.
Thailand's film festivals are notorious for movies not actually getting shown.
Either because of intervention by the censors or a 'couldn't organise a gang bang in a brothel' approach by organisers.
Wrong timings, films in polish with no subtitles, films that were never booked in the first place but looked good on the flyers. Films advertised at one venue but being shown at another.
I've seen it all (or rather, I haven't)
Show up and view seeing the films as a bonus and you'll be fine.
Cheers for the tip Cyrille. I've only been to one filum festival in Thailand and that was quite well run, but that was Bkk - a world away from Pha-Ngan.

Hi posters: Glad to see there is interest - the festival is taking place, indeed!!!
My friend Julien - the evil mastermind behind Koh Phangan's First Independent Film Festival - is a talented filmmaker and, just as any decent artist, unfortunatley far too spontanious: Despite the fact that the whole festival idea was mulled around in our heads for quite some time, it only really became a tangible possibility some 4 weeks ago.
Now with just another 5 weeks to go, the major challenge is to get the word out and encourage all humans with an interest in beach and culture to come down to the islands...
We would apreciate if all of you could further help to let people know: Success in its first year is crucial to establish this as an Annual Festival... Gracias!
Check back on Facebook and the official site for updates or post your questions here...
PS: Cyrill - appreciate your concern, yet program is final - reels are on site and (so help us god) we will be able to show them as announced...
both location and detailled schedule will be announced shortly. By registering on the Facebook page you will be automatically contacted with updates once they become available.
Will try and ask Julien to schedule some of your favourite movies for the second night, so you can get married without too many regrets...
I signed up the Facebook page as suggested by Leeds and received an update on location today:
This year's PFF will take place at the spacious Holiday Beach Resort in the outskirts of Koh Phangan's biggest town Thongsala. The resort is located 100 meters off the main road that connects Thongsala and Baan Tai. As you drive from Thongsala towards Baan Tai (and Haad Rin) watch out for a big Yamaha shop on your left hand side, the resort's driveway is right opposite that landmark.
IMO - Well chosen, the beach there is lovely and the resort will be able to cater for foods, drinks, toilets ...
