Johnny Rockets - The Menu

Do you think this concept would work in Bangkok?

Its nothing like McDonalds and Burger King, there's no shit in the meat - its a whole different experience and doesn't focus on Kids.

A Proper burger and other, similar food. And it would be double the price of your crappy fast food burget restaurants

I think the American reader will know JR's as they are quite big in the states as well as countries throughout the Middle East.

I'm thinking of opening 3 places along with my partner (the minimum investment for a new territory).

One on the lower Sukhumvit, one in Pattaya and one more in BKK at a location to be agreed

What do you reckon?

Good idea, but I would rather have an In and Out. You must be aware this is not a big meat eating country. BK has had problems which they are now rectifying in that they would not adapt the beef menu

Arby's was here but went belly up.

That said I would go in a second.

Mike's Burger went belly up in Silom as well, which was a shame.

I'd go Des'.

Yep - all top quality meat from Malaysia! I think the Farang:Thai ratio would likely be like Subway, around 80:20

JR's is all about chilling out with good service, old style American tunes and enjoying your Burger and proper fries plated up with lots of refills.

Not quite a meal out but certainly not BK. Its a slice of theold style American diner,

Not a bad idea but you would be competing with Mos Burger, a Japanese burger franchise, which is awesome.

Why not just set up your own one mate? To me a franchise is only worth it if it's a big name, I've never heard of this place....couldn't you just make a DE's Burger Place???

Ive thought about that too mate but I need the back up and support of a franchise whilst just starting out - but I'm gonna be the next William Heineckeme and open the Burger Company later!

Yep - the franchise requirements are tough. My partner meets the experience and between us we are nearly there on the financial requirments. However, that's just net worth not what it costs to set up!

I've been to Johnny Rockets about 5 or 6 times, mostly in Reno and Las Vegas, where they have locations inside casinos. The food is ok. Good french fries, above average hamburgers and outstanding fountain drinks. They have a mini-jukebox at each table which costs 5 cents, and they even give you a nickel when you are seated. The music is 50's and 60's rock and roll. The restaurant theme is 50's diner. I think Fatboy Diner which opened late last year in the Avenue Pattaya has a similarly-themed restaurant with a much deeper menu.

Mos is no comparison to Johny Rockets. It may be a good burger, but it does not have the style of authenticity. Although in the long run the Mos joint may prove more popular with the Thai's.

Open a Chili's DE, I went to one for the first time in Asia when I was in KL. Great burgers, kids meals and Mexican.
