Rang Mahal at the Rembrant Hotel. Sukhumvit soi 18.
The Sunday buffet is incredible. It is in the 700 baht range but is worth it as a once in a while curry fix.
It would be hard to do better at the best hotel buffets in India.
If you're on a budget, they do good lunch thailis for 300-400 baht daily.
Went to Punjab Sweets t'other night. Near Royal India, Chakrapet.
Veg only.....excellent stuff. Not oily. Cheap. Nice people.

good nice to see its Indian curries. I brought back a bunch of nice curry mixes from Penang. Made a Rendang Daging last night with just hunk of old Thai beef I simmered for a couple of hours. Delicious it was spicy but not pure fire like the Thai curries can be.
I actually ate it with rice as well. Working on my chapati recipe though.

If you want a good Indian curry in Ayutthaya, you have to make it yourself from scratch. You can buy most of the ingredients (ginger, garlic, chilies, cardomon, tumeric, etc) fresh and smash them together via mortar and pestle. Oddly, many of the Indian spices can be purchased at places that sell Chinese medicine. There are some good markets in Bangkok to by pre-mixed dry curry spices. In Ayutthaya there is a Pakistani shop at Huaro where you can buy decent mixes as well -- including spice packets for Masala and other dishes. Best yet, they sell ghee. You really need to use ghee instead of butter or palm oil if your going for the traditional Indian curry.
Punjab sweets is one of the best in Bangkok, very authentic. I find that most in the Banglampoo area use the same base for each dish and pretty much everything tastes the same.
There are two Punjab Sweets, one next to the India Emporium and one down next to the Klong.. The Klong one has a better atmosphere for eatting but the other is great for a cup of chai and a look at indian tv!!
