...on Chakrapet Road in Pahurat. No directions to the restaurant though as I refuse to knowingly guide anyone to this dive. As it was recommended by one of the guide books and one of the free weeklies, SD and I taxied down for a Pahurat walkabout starting at the India Emporium: a down-market mall with gaudy detritus on display. We walked around for a bit, saw nothing that caught our eyes, and so headed to the restaurant. Down a slimy alley off Chakrapet, past dank, dark rooms, and into a claustrophobic, charmless rectangle next to a klong....this was the place described by BK magazine as: "...a good example of less flair, more taste...serves up an array of taste-bud kicking Northern Indian food...". Our taste buds definitely suffered a beating.
We ordered malai kofta, morgh sag, bhindi, steamed rice, garlic and onion bread, one Chang and water. The bhindi was served first, sporting a delicately sauteed roach among the okra. SD fished it out and I called the "waitress" over. Glancing briefly at the unwanted protein, she appeared neither surprised nor disgusted: did we want to order another dish? We substituted alloo gobi and ate what we could of the rest of the meal, carefully prodding and scratching at the "food". Every item except the bread had been on the stove for hours, if not days, before we arrived and had been grossly oversalted. We gave up and called for the check-bin...B450. Perfect for the Khao San crowd, but not for us. We fled the cesspit with incipient indigestion, decided against the Punjabi sweets we also wanted to try, and taxied to the Emporium. Safe!
.....I wondered if I hadn't been too harsh on Mrs. Balbir's ...

Used to be a great Indian in the old World Trade Center food court on the top floor, food court prices etc.
I know this info is no use to anyone now but just thought I'd mention it.

Not found one in Thailand that serves my need for spice unless I'm with an Indian friend. I've ordered the most spicy dish from many places and found it as bland as bread.
I've given up with Indian food here as it is pretty much crap, tandoori is good but the curries are nothing like southern India.
Didn't mean any offense TC just I like your Italian places but can't trust ya with Indians lol

Indeed. Oh well.
