My very first day in Thailand, maybe 5 or 6 years back, I got well and truly conned into eating a cockroach.
After several large changs myslef and another western newbie decided to sample some of the more exotic delicacies that the street vendor had on display. The first offereings were all fairly tame and are things that I have come to quite enjoy, (silk worms, grass-hoppers, etc), but then the "friendly" vendor started cooking what he claimed to be a real Thai treat. I had my reservations, of course, but figured that I should give it a go if I was really going to immerse myself in the culture. Having taken a bite he, along with all his lao kao drinking buddies, burst into laughter at my expense. I spat it out and walked off feeling a little hard done by.
The reason I am putting this forward to join the ranks of tasty edibles is that on this night I was then fully justified in drinking well into the early hours, if only to rid my mouth of the taste and my mind of the thought!!!
Fried chicken, Moo Daet Diaw (sundried pork), Larb, any kind of sausage... Thai food's good beer food!
Daniel Bedingfield claimed that his new album is what it would sound like if Sting, Stevie Wonder and Micheal Jackson were in a basement together - I haven't got the album so I'll have to imagine the sound of a blind bloke and a Geordie kicking the shit out of a pedophile.
^it's those steamed curried fish things in a round shape banana leaf with steamed veggies on the bottom and a bit of coconut on top, i think.don't know but love 'em.
I've never tried it before, looks a bit sweet with all that coconut cream on top.
A packet of salt and vinegar crisps always goes down well with beer.
If I could do it all over again, I'd do it all over you.
