echo echo echo. Foodland, Villa and Tops all due imported beef. 850 to about 1500 baht a kilo. I like the NZ rib eyes at about 990 or so I think. Get them at Foodland.

Unless your steaks are imported you are gonna be surprised. I would advise you to go buy one of those giant chinese cleavers. You are gonna need it if you bought Thai beef. Done it many a time myself. But no more.

I saw this gorgeous cubed (stew) Thai beef at Tescos; got to make chili I sez to myself. So, I get it home and thoroughly brown it so it will flake apart after 4 05 r 5 hours of simmering in my slow cooker. To this day it's the toughest beef I have ever had the displeasure to chew and chew and chew and, well, you get the picture. First and last time I'll buy Thai beef. I don't think tenderizer would have touched that stuff.

Right on. Up till now I thought it might get soft like that but nope now I know. Thanks for the heads up bro.
There are a few places around that can tenderize it somehow. The one in my mind is Ban Ri steak house in Chaing Mai. I first found it almost 30 years ago and it was 50 baht for a nice steak a baked potato and a very small salad. Its like 189 or so now. But they told ya straight up it was tenderized buffalo. Sure its beef now though. It was nice. Somehow they used green papaya, pepsi, smoke flavor they got from somewhere, onion, garlic, perhaps even ginger. The only way I know is I asked every frigging time I went. I still have no idea as to the ratio of the tenderiser Green Papaya must be the top. Started out as the restaurant of a cheap guesthouse that was recommended by Lonely Planet 30 years ago. The publicity killed the GH but the restaurant lived on. Now the clientele is more Thai than farung, just out to have a nice steak at a fair price.

Believe me I know that bro, as and you well know Adolfs does not work on Thai beef. Doesnt even have a good taste if the truth be told. In Penang curry its just meat to me. Little pieces of meat. Chicken and pork might be a little lighter in color, thats all I know.I taste the curry with meat, but dont taste beef in the beef penang.
Perhaps that the way to make it soft. Cut it up until its the size and shape of a dime.

Yeah, I found if you slice any meat thin enough (you can read through it) it's edible, but no flavor. Imported beef isn't available out here so I haven't had any in years. The bummer is, pork (moo sap) doesn't really work in chili or spaghetti. So, I do a marinara and haven't done a chili in 2 years. I have 6 bottles of Gerhardt's chili powder from my last visit to the states and the next time I go to BKK, I'm buying some beef (not Thai).

I brought two packs of hamburger meat with me from Kuwait on my last trip. Had a small cooler with an ice pack to keep it cold. Packed it in my checked baggage. As we were on approach to Swampybottom Airport, the flight attendant announces that "bringing meat into Thailand is against the law and punnishable by a fine of 25,000 baht. I picked up my bag at baggage clame, and walked to customs check. Looking at the green and red signs, I opted to take a chance. Made it through without any check. As I was walking through to the taxi stand, I got a tap on my shoulder. A customs guy had followed me through. "E cuse me sir." He pats on my bag. "Do you have......any cigarettes in here?" I think he could hear my sigh of relief. "Uh, no, sir. I don't smoke!", I said. He said thanks, and walked on. I've had my fair share of burgers for the past few days!
