If you haven't been to Wong's yet you should go.I ended up in this place at the end of last nights 'I gotta leave Rangsit' antics. I only wish I had found this place sooner. It's got a great atmosphere and a very interesting crowd. Are there any similar places in BKK? I do not go into town that often but would make more of an effort to do so if I could find places like Wong's.
...Is this the place near the Malaysia Hotel?...
...majestically enthroned amid the vulgar herd...
Yeah, among all the gay tourists. It's a hip, dive bar type place.
That's the place! I got lost as it is hard to find. So I asked a cop...he was an obvious choice for info on after hours bars!
...went there years ago, before the original Wong had died...glad, for some reason, to know the place is still there...
Yeah are you sure you didn't step in a time warp? Know the place from reputation, went once with an old poster cortezcortez but it was closed or something...
Papa was a rodeo - Mama was a rock'n'roll band
I could play guitar and rope a steer before I learned to stand
It's still open, around 11 PM - midnight when I was there in the middle of September 2012. Beerlao singles for 80 b., and a nice atmosphere. LP referred travelers, a variety of local expats, some old-school Vietnam vets, Thai hi-so's, etc. Saw some gay guys, but also some attractive western chicks. Good place if you want to get out of the way; I'm told the area used to be "tourist central" until KSR became what it is. It may be a good time to check the area out (there is also some decent family-owned accommodation in the 200-300 baht range, plus more upscale) as demolition of these sort of spots is not too far in the future, I think. The land value is high, and sooner or later it'll be converted to high-price high-rises.
