I haven't had a Reuben in years. Finding corned beef in this place is a rarity. (The f#@king Mullas want to make sure every piece of meat sold in this country is halal.) But I got lucky, today. After picking up a 1/2 a kilo of corned beef from the deli section, I combed the isles of the supermarket, in search of the ingredients for my favorite sandwich. Fresh rye bread is no problem. Arabs love their bread. Swiss cheese is another easy item. But sauerkraut? I wasn't holding out much hope. Trying to explain sauerkraut to the Bengali stockboy was fruitless. Combing the canned foods isle, I had my fingers crossed. End of the isle, bottom shelf, one friggin' can left! Hallelujah! I can almost taste it! Russian dressing, no problem. Just a mix of horseradish dressing, Worcestershire, and ketchup.
Two sandwiches later, I can feel my arteries clogging, but fuck me, they were good!
Got a favorite sandwich?

how was the pickle?
a good sandwich for me would have jalapenos and swiss on it and some good mustard ,a pile of ham-the thin sliced deli ham, griilled onions, salt, pepper on brown rye and then grill the whole sandwich til the cheese melts
Arrrrggghh!
Is there a real deli in BKK?

Favorite sandwich? Where is cluezo to read my mind and post an appropriate pic?
Lovely looking sarnies there, lads, and I bet they're delicious too.
Still.
I only need a Warburton's medium-sliced (white), a jar of Shipham's fish spread, a sprinkle of Sarson's vinegar and a lightly crushed layer of cheese and onion crisps, to create something that wafts me away on a breeze from a Proustian paradise.
That's a serious response by the way, I'm not putting on side (inversely). I love a posh butty as much as the next man, but I love a fish spread butty better; made on the run, or better still, one that's been sat in a rucksack for a morning before consumption.

Salami on toasted sliced Italian bread rubbed with garlic. With roasted cherry tomatoes crushed and drizzled with olive oil and sea salt and fresh ground pepper (roasted red peppers will do if that sounds like too much work). Add some fresh basil and thinly sliced onions. Provolone cheese goes well with salami...but goat cheese is fun too...or blue cheese if you're feeling real adventurous.
---Update---
Also PB&J. That's on Wonder Bread or an equivalent. Creamy Skippy and grape jelly.
