Hi folks. I have an aunt & uncle who are coming to Bangkok and I have Sunday and Monday off for Chinese new Year. Last year, I had to work so I don't know what events are held in BKK. I'd like to take them to Chinatown, but I don't know of any scheduled events. Are they usually held on the Sunday or Monday? Have any of you been to Yaowarat (sp?) for Chinese New Year? Are there other places to go to celebrate?
I'd like to take them to Chinatown, but I don't know of any scheduled events.
Can't help you there either, although I'm sure something must be going on. A lot of Chinese-Thais tend to hit Chinatown in the week before New Year's to stock up on food and goodies, then when the time comes either have parties with extended family at home or go away for the weekend.
I'm sure the big hotels around Bkk will be putting something on, could be worth checking that out. Otherwise, depending on how adventurous your aunt and uncle are, just cruise around Chinatown until you come across something interesting. :chug:

Do not drive under any circumstances. Taxi, motorcycle, any thing but a car. And be ready for a lot, and I do mean a lot of noise.

I have also forgotten (or never knew).
Is there a public holiday involved?
Darn school never seems to confirm holidays until about the day before even though if it's an official holiday, they must know well in advance.
Well maybe not...I don't think even the principal knew before the preceeding Thursday about that Monday/Tuesday New years holiday.

28th and 29th and no public holiday from what I can see (it is after all Chinese New Year not Thai).

To clear up the confusion: Chinese New Year is on Sunday January 29th. Monday the 30th is an Unofficial holiday. Since I work in a cushy corporate job, we have Monday off as the holiday. It's one of those optional holidays, mystery holidays in LOS.
Miss u 2 babe. Life treating you well I hope though?
