Yes...... SO?? They are informing you of penalties if you are in violation of certain things, who comes in and out of Thailand, etc. When I go to IMM. I don't see a jail there. If anyone is going to put you in jail is the police. Imm. can fine you also, I think we all know that. THat doesn't change my points. Stop taking things out of context.Originally Posted by soijetcornergirl

I know one large (and loveable) so called 'agency' in BKK, called BFiTS, has a BIG list on the wall in the office that they check against.
Can I say that? It's a good thing, and not hearsay....

'mustafarodupthere' if you walk to the left side of immigration and down the road about 30 metres you will see the immigration detention centre. It fits my definition of a jail - iron bars, no personal shower or toilet, lots of 'illegal aliens' locked up. I spent a few hours in there after the first series of raids. Very very unpleasant - it smells like a dirty zoo (that is no joke) There were maybe a few hundred people locked in cells there, mostly Burmese and Cambodian workers, a sprinkling of African and Indian people and even a few Farang.
So how far back are they going? Tha's an awful lot of degrees to check if they're checking every single teacher currently working in LOS.Originally Posted by dino67

And I hardly see Western universities releasing releasing private information to a foreign government agency. Only the teacher would be able to access that information. Checking should be easy enough to do if the testamur has an ID number on it. Simple enough to match the number with the name. My Australian testamurs both have numbers on them. Not sure about other countries.Originally Posted by columbia

'Columbia'
I'm not sure how far back they are going - 12 months - 2 years. But the point is they are checking degrees, not sure how many they have checked or what circumstances get people put on Immigrations list. Like I said in my friends case it was an email from the uni stating the degree did not appear to be issued by them.
Basically if the MOE are checking for fraudulent documentation are they just going after the schools they believe are "suspect" in employing dodgy cert holders or every school, uni, language centre etc in the country? As Loner said would my old uni release private information about myself without my consent? The logistics involved in checking everybody would be incredible. Plus i thought it was up to the school to say that the degree was ok. If not its a big turnaround from what i was led to believe.
I last renewed my paperwork about 3 months ago. At the time i had a little bit of a sweat on because there was talk flying around about transcripts, verifying letters etc none of which i had. I got my new paperwork the same as every other year for the past 6 years with no probs. In fact the MOE are still using the original photocopy of my degree that i gave them back in 2001.
