Ajarn Forum - Teaching and Living In Thailand FAQ

To provide a free online service for teachers and other expats in Thailand and elsewhere. To maintain some decorum befitting a teachers forum, while at the same time maintaining an irreverent tone through a balanced approach to moderation and free speech. To keep discussion within acceptable boundaries under Thai law. To maintain objectivity in our dealings with members of the community, and be decisive in our actions. To be innovative, and to strive for increased membership, accountable moderation, and a long future.

The site is funded exclusively by banner advertisements. The forum management does not neccessarily endorse any products or services advertised, and will not specify any preference in the case of there being two competing parties advertising on the site, and we do not take sponsorship alone into any consideration in matters of moderation.

The forum is run by a hierachy of usergroups. Admin - The manager and webmaster of the forum. Has control over every aspect of the forum software, domain, hosting, and revenues. Has final say on policy/moderation matters, pays all bills, installs hacks and upgrades, tweaks the configuration when necessary, is responsible for all emergency maintenance, and generally carries the can when all hell is breaking loose. Senior Moderator - Voluntary position, has limited admin powers mostly related to user management, as well as regular moderation powers. Has final say in the case that Admin is not available to comment on moderation/policy issues. Has the authority to ban users if need be. Moderator - Voluntary position, has the ability to close, delete, split, merge, edit, or otherwise take action on threads or posts deemed to be inappropriate. Moderators are selected by other moderators and admin based on any merits they have shown in the course of their posting as a registered user. If you have to ask to become one, you probably are not suitable. We never base moderator appointments on user polls or speculation.

Ajarn Forum is an independent business which provides a complementary forum service for Ajarn.com which it was part of until 2004. Since that time, we have maintained links to our respective sites, and have enjoyed a mutually beneficial traffic sharing arrangement. Ajarn.com and Ajarn Forum do not revenue share, are hosted separately and neither has ownership over any content posted on the other's site. All enquiries about content originally posted on Ajarn.com need to be directed to the management of that site, and likewise forum queries cannot be handled by contacting Ajarn.com or its associates.
